Will an intel core 2 duo E8400 processor be compatable with a gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 Motherboard? The board says it can support intel core 2 processors Fsb 1333 so it seems to conform ?

for around $30 extra you can go to a Q6600 Quad core that is supported.

GO to Gigabyte web sight and read the specs on your board! 3 mouse clicks -- that's all it took to find the answer.

Hi Stu, No mate, your GA-N650SLI-DS4 does not support the E8400.

See Info below from Gigabyte. If you already have this M/b then you will have to downgrade to a lower processor. You can try one of these, E6850 (3.0Ghz,4Mb) with a M/b Bios Ver F7 or above. E6750} E6550} all Ver F7 or above bios. E6540}

The info below came from Gigabyte, so if you select another Core2 Duo then just look up via the M/b on Giga's site.

Hi,

The E8400 is not compatible with that mainboard. While the FSB s fine, the E8400 is a 45nm CPU.

My mistake, according to the list John is correct, it is not supported. Core™ 2 Duo E6850(3.0GHz,4MB)is OK though, so that looks like the next best option.

Have you bought the mainboard yet?

I recommend on the day of purchase to get the shop person to assist you out in the choice of mainboard with that CPU. You must first choose the processor than choose the mainboard? If you already bought the mainboard now you must choose a supported CPU from the mainboard manual
