I have a Maxtor OneTouch II 300GB external harddrive that I have been using for system back-ups. I have another Seagate HDD in a generic enclosure that I use for media files.
Recently, my PC has been unable to create a Path to the Maxtor and therefore the device cannot be used. The Seagate HDD is recognised and a Path created but the drive is reported as "Not Formatted".
I have disconnected an external card reader that tends to take-over Paths. This reader usually tries to grab the four drive/prompt-letters immediately after the internal devices. Because of this, I have assigned drive letters like N: P: Q: to external devices. Now, these Paths are not recognised.
With the exception of my Creative Zip-drive (how quaint, say some :)), the Maxtor is not recognised and the Seagate is alledgedly unformatted.
Sometimes, a USB port will drop into 'sleep' mode. To check on this, I have moved the Maxtor USB connection around to no effect.
To summarise:
The Maxtor is recognised/displayed in: Safely Remove Hardware - the Properties say "This device is working properly". Add Hardware Wizard - "The following hardware is already installed on your computer" Device Manager - twice - 1. as Maxtor Personal Storage and 2. as a connected USB device
It is not recognised/displayed in: Computer Management > Disk Management Computer Management > Removable Storage > Media Computer Management > Removable Storgage > Libraries Drive Paths
I have screen shots of these if anyone is interested.
Can someone/anyone please offer enlightenment. Either via the forum or to << Yraen.Sydney at Gmail dot com >>
Many thanks.
