Firefox 3 (8 posts)

I decided to download Mozilla Firefox 3, now when I click on the icon Firefox will not open I have rebooted several times & get the hour glass for a second or two and then nothing, also doing a restore does not go back to the original version. (Firefox 2)

Re: Firefox 3

Laurence,

Uninstall! Mozilla is NOT like IE where you roll it back to an earlier version.

Then re-install.

Re: Firefox 3

Tried that Dick, but still not working. Still only get the hour glass for a second or two and then nothing.

Re: Firefox 3

As Dick says, uninstall it and then do a fresh download. It is worth bearing in mind the frailties of the carrier system; that is, the phone line infrastructure between you and the download server.

One little bit of data missing or corrupted because of it will cause an application to fail. When a downloaded application fails this is always my first thought, and my first move is to uninstall it and try again.

When a new version of Firefox installs it will remove the old version, hence you can't roll back to it, unless (as with some applications) you choose to save the download file instead of running it immediately, in which case you could reinstall an older version of an application by running the saved file. I'm sure a fresh install will solve your problem.

Paul.

Re: Firefox 3

You may be unlucky and have a corrupt Firefox profile. You can create a new one by using the Run command: firefox -profilemanager.

It's probably a good idea to backup your Firefox settings anyway in case this sort of thing happens. You should probably uninstall Firefox 2 before installing Firefox 3 (I didn't and it worked, but others have had problems).

Re: Firefox 3

First I closed Firefox via clicking on the "File" (on menu bar) and exiting or closing it!

I went to the Start, All Programs list, and right clicked and opened Mozilla Firefox in safe mode then I >>> "Reset all user preferences to Firefox default, then I went back and clicked on my Firefox icon on the quick launch and viola Firefox started and came right up.

Re: Firefox 3

Laurence,

There may be some unwanted remnants left in your registry then that are not being over-written on re-installation. I would back up your COMPLETE registry and after removal of Firefox, do a manual search for Firefox entries or use a registry cleaner.

I also apologise - I forgot to tell you to back up your bookmarks before removing anything.
