I need to change the abbreviated year numbers (08) at the start of file names to the full year (2008) on hundreds of files. How can I do this automatically instead of one at a time?

Haven't tried it and if you do, I would suggest doing a trial run with dummy files rather than risk stuufing them up.

Also, I would back the files up prior to any change that you envisage.

Best advice- search the internet and download "LUPAS RENAME 2000" This program will rename anything and everything, any way, just as you want with many options.

Thank you for both replies which are exactly what I needed. Will save me hours of work. Only problem left is to decide which one to use.
