DSL through wireless network (3 posts)

I currently have a wireless network using a Connectland 802.11 wireless router. Each of the hosts is allocated a dynamic IP address begining 192.168.1.1 etc, the router itself is 192.168.1.254. No issue here, goes like a train.

NB. The 2 nodes on the wireless network (1xXP, 1x2000) have both a wireless network card and a conventional 10/100 network card, however in both instances the UTP NICs are disabled in network properties.

I have just subscribed to Optusnet DSL and supplied a DLink modem and I have connected it to the WAN port of my wireless router. The router can see the modem (I can SNMP into the router and do diagnostics where the modem's IP address shows up on the WAN port), but I can't surf.

If I disable the wireless, enable the 10/100 NIC and connect the modem directly to the PC it works fine. So I know the modem works and I know the router works, they just don't work together. I've done route print and there are no persistant routes. Any ideas?

Re: DSL through wireless network

I turned on NAT in the modem - presto.

DOW!

Re: DSL through wireless network

It sounds like an IP address conflict. When you connect the PC to the modem via ethernet, what IP address does the PC get. (Start/Run/cmd then type ipconfig /all.

It will show the IPaddress and the gateway. It is possible that the modem is on a different subnet (say 192.168.0). Also it means that the modem is also a DHCP server. I don't know the connectland wireless router, but with a Belkin router it can be set up as an Access Point only, whereby it acts more like a hub and all ipaddresses are given out by the mode, so every device is on the same subnet.
