MechWarrior 2 Not Installing on ME (4 posts)

I have had a computer with Windows 95 for a long time, and I played MechWarrior 2 a lot. Recently, I purchased a prefab computer (I know, bad move, but what can I do about it now?) using Windows ME, and I can not install MW2 on it!

After it asks to register, I click "Register Later" and an error message pops up, saying:
"__ins0432" [or something to that effect] "has caused an error in GETINFO.DLL"
After that, the installer terminates, and that's it.

I have inquired on the Activision Support site about this, but they were not very helpful.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks,
Fangface

Hi Fangface

Get rid of Win ME

Re: MechWarrior 2 Not Installing on ME

Fangface,

Check the game package and make sure that it says that it will run on Me.

Once confirmed, instead of clicking "Register Later", click "Register Now" and see what happens.

If that still fails, I have a suggestion, but I can't guarantee that it will work:

During installation, instead of installing the game to C:Program Filesblablabla... change the installation path and make it C:MW.

Let us know how you go.

Daniel

Re: MechWarrior 2 Not Installing on ME

I assume that you have searched the game manufacturer's website for its latest patch - which may address this issue.

I have forgotten exactly where or what it's called, but in WinME you can set the OS to 'pretend' that its Win98 when using a program.

If I recall what it is - I'll post back BUT maybe someone else could point you in the right direction with the suggestion above.

I had WinME for about 2 weeks before I just chucked it out.
