AVG serial number (34 posts)

I have been trying for some time to download (successfully) and obtain the serial number to install the free version of AVG antivirus - with no success. I have completed the online form many times but the promised installation details never arrive at my email address (yes I have double checked the spelling). I have also completed the whole process from download - install - get serial number severak times (which takes you back to the download page). I would appreciate any advice - there does not appear to be any way of contacting AVG except to purchase their product.

Thanks

Rhonda

Re: AVG serial number

Hi Rhonda

Some thousands of people will attest to the fact that it works, therefore there is no doubt that there is some issue at your end. Are you downloading from grisoft.com? If not then that is the problem. The email confirmation is immediate, so if you are entering the correct details, and filling out the form fully, then you will receive confirmation. Is there any possibility that you are using an email address when filling out the form which your email client is not checking? Look in Tools -> Accounts to confirm your details. Send an email to yourself and make sure it comes back to your inbox.

Good luck

Re: AVG serial number

Rhonda,

I have had exactly the same problem also with no success. My email address is correct and is definetly working the only thing I can think of is my antispam program which is 'spam inspector'. You wouldn't by any chance be using this also?

Re: AVG serial number

Hi Rhonda,

Do you have anti-spam software or any filters on your e-mail account that is stopping commercial e-mail getting through?

Re: AVG serial number

Hi Rhonda,

I have the same problem. Have you ever download AVG6 before?

I downloaded Free6 for a friend only a month ago and I had no problem I got the email within minutes. So maybe you can only download one from the same ISP address for single user.

My solution was to download the trial Verion of 7 and send a query I had on 7 and also asked about my problem with Free6 and explained my situation.

If I get an answer I will post back again.

Jania

Re: AVG serial number

Re: AVG serial number

Thank you to those who have responded. I respond to your queries as follows:

Chris – I too believe it is an issue my end, but the following responses to my query throw this theory in some doubt. Yes, my email works (they all do, and I have tried two of the six I use. I originally downloaded from Grisoft.com (and several times since) and also from PC World CD.

Dee – I am not using ‘spam inspector’. I use webwasher, ZoneAlarm, spybot and Adaware and Norton AntiVirus. Disabling all of these makes no difference. At this stage I don't believe uninstalling is warranted. (See comments below).

Mark – ditto above.

Jania – no I haven’t downloaded AVG6 before. I am interested if you have had success trying the ‘trial’ version to get a response from Grisoft.

I have today tried again to complete registration on another computer – one without any of the above programs – bare basics with only a very old version of Norton (pre-subscription edition) because I barely use this computer for email and internet. The email address and name I used for registration were different again (same internet account). Still no success. That was several hours ago!

It all seems too much trouble – but if something is listed as available, that’s what it should be, available! Thanks to you all. If anyone has any success, please let me know.

All I want is a number!

Rhonda

Re: AVG serial number

Hi Rhonda,

I downloaded the trial version of 7 and was able to ask the techs there. So far the reponse has been that they couldn't find my email address listed as downloading AVG6

The reason I thought that maybe you had downloaded before was that was my problem. I was updating my girlfriends PC and download AVG6 for her through my ISP account as we couldn't get her onlie. [The license terms say something like you can only download one per PC]. We got round it by her downloading AVG on her PC when she got home and she got the email. So she keeps her download and I have kept the one I downloaded here.

I would suggest downloading from another PC with different ISP and see if the email arrives and then email Sales department and query

You can contact me via email if it is allowed by the site l0lapx@dodo.com.au

I am still making enquiries at AVG as others are still getting the Email with Serial number.

I will check back if my email is not passed on and post anything else I have found out.

Best of luck,

Jania

Re: AVG serial number

Hi Rhonda,

Here is your answer, it is longwinded as I have included all the relevant communication to AVG technical support for AVG7.

I ended up getting the Licence Number given my girlfriend [after being blunt] but no answers to my question. so here goes the communication with AVG Technical support for AVG7. you may need to be blunt as well to get a response.

Hi Mark I have had no response to the last email The licence states " 2. You may install and use only one copy of the Software for single home or non-commercial organization computer protection only, irrespective of the number of times you download the Software or the number of licenses you purport to accept."

I have the following questions which are not cover in the AVG6 FAQ and as this is not a technical question [technically] I would appreciate some answers or a place to address these questions please.

a.. You said - you cannot find any AVG Free Edition registered to my email address. When does it get registered - when I download or when I get the License number?

b.. Am I allowed to try again to download using one of my other emails accounts and see if I receive the email to activate the program? OR If I downloaded and didn't get the license then download again is this considered breaking the agreement clause above.

c.. If I give you all my email address's will this help find the download so I can get a licence number to activate the program.

d.. Does the fact that my friend downloaded AVG6 from my telephone line, onto her new computer while she was staying here, using her ISP and received her email with Licence number, affect whether I can get a licence?

e.. Does the fact that I originally downloaded AVG6 years ago -received email with serial number while at l0lapx@aol.com l0lapx@aol.com , which has since been destroyed with the harddrive it was on, affect whether I can get a licence now that I have a different PC, ISP address etc?

I apologise if I sound frustrated. HOW CAN GRISOFT HAVE A FREE EDITION ON THEIR WEBSITE and then not send people emails to activate the program. And then tell the client that they cannot help. IF I had received a License number I wouldn't be sending you emails.

I have already been notified by your department that AVG do not have any record of my registered account. So could someone please have the courtesy to reply to my questions or give me the place where I can get the answers apart from the AVG6 FAQ section as my questions are not covered there.

It is a good advertisement for AVG when they have the generosity to supply a FREE version, but it is not good when a client who downloads this version does not receive a serial/licence number to activate the program.

If your department cannot help me by answering the questions, could you please advise me of which department in Grisoft is interested in having bugs etc reported to them and fixed up.

Thank you. Jania

Please do not fob me off. I do understand English, but it appears I am having a problem understanding American.
