CPU COMPATIBILITY WITH GRAPHICS CARD (6 posts)

Hi. I just bought a dell inspirion 560. i have tried to install 3 different video cards and have failed. when the expansion card is in the computer, windows will not load. its gets stuck on the "starting windows" stage.

i contacted dell and they told me that the video cards that i had tried might not have been compatible with my CPU which is an intel core duo processor and they said that it was the latest processor.

this sounds fishy to me because i have been calling them with the same issue for about 2 weeks and they only thought to tell me about this today.

HELP!! i'm tired and after the travelling, phone calls and the video cards, i'm broke!

Doubtful

The claim made by Dell is Doubtful at best. Have a powerful enough (and sufficient quality) power supply? What video was previously used, onboard? If so did you disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS? Uninstall previous graphics drivers? Tried starting in safe mode?

This is why I hate the big PC suppliers, lies, substandard motherboards and shitty cases.

Your problems

That's tough. Your problems are pretty much the reason I use Macs. Always have, always will.

Everything works. No stuffing around, no wasting time, no wasting money buying crap that should be standard-installed in the first place. And in the end, it's cheaper to stick to a Mac.

Video card and CPU incompatibility

There is no such thing as GPU and CPU incompatibility. What you experiencing is a Windows driver issue. To load the drivers for your new card start in Safe mode, delete (uninstall) existing drivers from Control panel and install new drivers for your new Video card. After that your computer will start fine. When it does, adjust your resolution and you are in business. Have fun.

Obvious troll is obvious. Good luck gaming on a Mac. Which is the only reason anybody would be installing an aftermarket GPU. Idiot. And even then, the cost of a 400 dollar (upgradable) Dell + a 100 dollar aftermarket GPU != 2000 dollars for a Mac that is non-upgradable and will be obsolete in two years.

what he said ^

btw, i posted this on a mac.
