Hey folks...
I have a LeadTek WinFast A250 series graphic card (128MB GeForce 4 Ti4400) and recently got to playing around with the graphics options it offers. I found that it provides some nice antialiasing modes, that really enhanced the appearance of some of my games; and I'm hoping one of you clever techie-heads will know a trick of two that will allow me to set the antialiasing mode on a per-program basis?
The card supports the following antialiasing modes:
2x
Quincunx
4x
4xS
obviously with improving image quality, but also requiring more computing power, as you go down the list. You can choose between "Manually set the antialiasing mode", or "Let applications control the antialiasing mode" (the default option, and also the safest and most logical choice).
However, no game that I've yet played actually HAS a facility for setting the antialiasing mode itself. This means if I want antialiasing in my games, I have to set the mode manually by going into the card properties in Control Panel, which then affects all applications, and which unfortunately is not entirely appropriate for all my games.
For example, I'd like to run Monster Truck Madness 2 in 4xS mode, since it's an older game so my computer can handle the extra graphical work without it affecting the framerate, and it only runs in 640x480 so the antialising makes a huge visual difference. However, it's impractical to set this in the card property page, since it's a long route to reach it (Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > GeForce 4 Ti4400 > Additional Properties > Manually set the antialiasing mode > 4xS), and these settings will affect ALL the applications which causes framerate reduction with some more recent games (like V8 Challenge and Crimson Skies, and then there's Dungeon Siege which flat-out doesn't go under antialiasing mode) unless I go through all that again to set it back.
So, does anyone know of a way for automatically setting the antialiasing mode on a per-program basis, for those programs that don't control the antialiasing mode themselves? Ideally, this would work such that when I launch Monster Truck Madness 2, it would automatically set the antialiasing mode to 4xS, and when I quit it returns to whatever setting it had prior. If I were to launch another game, like Crimson Skies, it would automatically set whatever antialiasing mode I'd decided was most suitable for that, and so on.
Can this be done? I thought it might be possible with a batch file, but I wouldn't have the slightest idea of how to implement it, nor would I know how to access the card's antialiasing settings outside of the Control Panel properties page...
Thanks!
