Sound for Dos Games - Duke Nukem (2 posts)

I have a sound blaster compatible card and am unable to configure it to play sound in Duke Nukem3D. I know the IQR, Address, and DMA, but when I test the sound it says there is a possibly a IRQ or DMA conflict. I have checked Device Manager and there are no conflicts though. How do I get some sound for this game? How do I find out what settings to use?

Make sure you are loading Dos drivers, not just the windows ones. Sound cards have a myriad of ways the Dos drivers can be loaded, from a "load blaster" command in the autoexec.bat, to driver extensions in your System dialogue.

Best bet is to make sure your Dos sound drivers are set to IRQ7, DMA1 and address to 220, these values will work for most Dos games. You then of course have to set the games options to match. Duke Nukem is fairly unforgiving, so unless you get it right, no sound or no play.
