How to set up monitor "landscape" to "Portrait" (4 posts)

I use the computer basically for photographs, and would like to set up the monitor to Portrait position. What software/settings do I need to change to carry out this change? System running on XP, but 2nd computer running on Vista. Need answers to both please.

Thanks, Kishor

Kishor,

I'm presuming that you want to physically rotate the monitor to the 'portrait' position.

The only fix that I can think of is the type of video card or monitor you have.

I have an Nvidia video card and the software permits rotation of the monitor picture. Some monitors also have software that permits such rotation.

I don't believe that either Xp or Vista have this capability- I may be wrong on this as I have never investigated.

Some monitors switch automatically when rotated, some come with software to do the job.

For others you need to use the utility provided by the video card software(my experience here is confined to nVidia cards, which have had the facility for several years, but I expect ATI provide it as well.)

If doing it with software, rotate the image before you rotate the screen.

Where can I buy a notebook or laptop with portrait oriented monitor. Screen is oriented 90 degrees to the keyboard and the text of course runs left to right. Ideal size is Height 12" and Width is 7". I assume being that it is too narrow, the regular sized keyboard might be detached.
