Are my drivers stuffed? (8 posts)

I recently bought a Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9700(non-pro). It comes bundled with Solider of Fortune 2 Double Helix.

I installed it but when it runs, the error "could not load OpenGL subsystem" always appears.

I have downloaded the latest drivers (catalyst 7.93) and am using a P4 2.8ghz, 512mb DDR Ram, Intel 865 motherboard, and Radeon 9700.

Please tell me how to overcome this problem.

Re: Are my drivers stuffed?

Video card drivers sound like they are not 100% completely installed. Make sure you have the latest version from the Radeon website.

I’m sure you have other open GL games and if you get this error on one game then you should get it on others.

Do a google search for opengl benchmarks and down a few test apps to see if its running correctly, Also make sure your directX is the latest version.

Re: Are my drivers stuffed?

I installed the drivers fully but when installation is complete it says "you must restart your computer for the changes to take effect. After restarting, the drivers will run tests for stablility. This normally takes under 1 min to complete. If your computer does not respond, just restart."

I reboot and then log in. My screen goes blank and then nothing happens. After 10 mins nothing happens so I restart. Everything works fine after that, but I dont know if my drivers are installed properly.

Re: Are my drivers stuffed?

Ttry not using the install program restart. It might work if you say no to the restart prompt. Wait 5 minutes before restarting, then just do a winblows restart. And if possible, don't allow it to do those tests at startup for system stability.

With those specs you mentioned, I doubt you'll have any trouble.

Re: Are my drivers stuffed?

I agree with the earlier post that it seems your video drivers were not installed properly. It seems that you have tried to reinstall the drivers at least a couple of times.

When you removed the video drivers and tried reinstalling the drivers again, does it come up with the same annoying process? Check to see that DirectX is properly installed as well. Use the diagnostic programs to sought out the solution.

Re: Are my drivers stuffed?

Yea ive reinstalled them 3 times and it always goes through the same annoying process. I had to resort to my orginal bundled catalyst drivers all the time as the system becomes unstable and hanged heaps.

Re: Are my drivers stuffed?

Get new drivers from the SAPPHIRE website. you have paid for their help, after all. they should be bending over backwards to make sure those drivers work for your card.

I notice a 5 to 10% boost in performance and stability using the Leadtek drivers for my FX 5600 instead of the nvidia website drivers.

Also, the advice for anyone who is looking for new drivers, is that new drivers can cause problems the old ones never had. sound familiar?

Hi

am a new member and i remember seeing something about the opengl subsytem error in the Jedi Outcast troubleshooting guide so I had a look (jedi outcast has a similar graphics engine to SOF2). This is what it says:

"Could Not Load OpenGL Subsystem

You may see an error when attempting to start the game stating Could Not Load OpenGL Subsystem. If this occurs, please check the following before trying to start the game:

• First, make sure that your video card is supported. Please check the list of Supported 3D Cards and Chipset in the Video Section of this troubleshooting guide to see if your card is listed.

• Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Please check the Video Section of this troubleshooting guide for the list of drivers that were tested with this game.

• If you are using a video card that supports dual monitors, the secondary monitor must be disabled for OpenGL to initialize correctly.

• Make sure the 3D hardware acceleration is turned all the way up. You can check this by going through Analyze your Computer, which is accessible through the Help menu in the launcher."
