Guys!
I have an issue with Outlook 2003 where a message with attachments over about 1Mb appear to stay in the Out Box and I get a time-out error: " reported error (0x8004210B). The operation timed-out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. Blah Blah Blah."
Smaller messages appear to go quietly.
However, the message has actually been sent - but as it appears not to have gone I resend it.
Google/MSKB appears to be a little short on answers that I can understand - My ISP is also scratching its head.
Any takers?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Email is sent but stays in Out Box
Guys,
Further to my previous post - I actually did a Google on the actual error code and came up with a few hits - but each seemed to link to salesmen for Registry Fixers. MS had information on the error but all relating to earlier flavours and supposedly overcome.
As I had lost any confidence in my e-mail and not knowing whether a message had been sent or not- REFORMATTED and RELOADED.
Cheers

Turn off scan outgoing e-mail setting in your AV - I have seen this a few times & it is usually to do with the AV - mainly seen with iinet/Ozemail mail servers.

G'day DT
Have you tried increasing the timeout period to its maximum

Re: Email is sent but stays in Out Box
Guys,
Thanks for your responses. AV has always been set NOT to scan outgoing.
Time-out period was actually increased to over 4 minutes when at the time I didn't realise that the message was actually being sent.
The error code is 0x8004210B and basically the Google hits were ads for Registry cleaners/fixes.
This error was supposedly overcome by SP3 to Office XP- seeing that I run Office 2003????
All attempts to overcome the problem failed and I have reformatted and reloaded.
Cheers

Hey Guys,
Your problem is not good and I am having the same. My issue is that I have Vista and Office 2007, and believe me the issue has not been resolved. My ISP and MS dont have an answer, my AV is set NOT to scan outgoing and my time out is increased.
I have the same error code and cant get an answer either........
Will let you know if I come up with anything.
Thanks
Troy

Re: Email is sent but stays in Out Box
Guys,
Just to let you know - The problem persists despite reformatting and reloading. I then removed Office 2003 and re-installed, also to no avail. I know that recipients of these multiple e-mails from me are getting pretty p.....d off.
There appears to be no concrete factor that causes the problem. Some onforwarded e-mails go without any hassles and others don't. If I re-create the message in a new e-mail, the problem continues.
Creating completely new e-mail messages sometimes go and sometimes don't.
I notice that one of you have Vista and Office 2007 and have a similar problem. I was going to install my Office 2007 but I think I'll wait until I can overcome the current issue.

Guys,
The problem persists.
Guys,
The problem persists. I have reformatted AGAIN with NO improvement. I now have no hair left after pulling out what I had left.
I bought RegCure in an effort to solve the issue- still no real improvement- removed and a refund arranged.
I'm about to reformat again- This time I will update XP before installing Office or AV. I will update Office and then load my AV.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Mail stays in Outbox
Guys,
The saga has now reached breathtaking proportions. I have re-formatted three times now. Uninstalled and re-installed MS Office 2003. I have tried innumerable so-called fixes. The Registry Cleaner I bought failed and I got my money back. I have disabled my AV. You name it- I think I've tried them all.
So! Next stop MS! Rang them up and was informed that Outlook 2003 was no longer managed under mainstream Tech Support and if I wanted to pay $80, they would put me on to a consultant- There was NO GUARANTEE that the problem would be resolved. I wouldn't get my money back either. Below is the text of the letter I despatched to MS expressing my extreme displeasure. A lot of good that will do??
I have a persistent error occurring with MS Outlook 2003 that I am unable to overcome despite resorting to considerable drastic measures that included re-formatting my hard drive three times in the past three months. I have also removed and re-installed MS Office. I have trolled the Microsoft Knowledge Base (MSKB) until I’m blue in the face. I have Googled the error. I have purchased a Registry Cleaner (I was refunded when it failed to fix the issue it claimed it would). I have discussed the issue with my ISP. All to no avail. I have exhausted all known avenues in the effort to resolve the issue.
The error message is: Sending reported error (0x8004210B); ‘The operation timed out waiting for a response from the (SMTP) server.’
I contacted Microsoft Technical Support in a last-ditch effort to resolve the issue. I was informed that, as MS Outlook 2003 is no longer covered by mainstream support I would be required to pay a consultancy fee of $80. The person who answered the phone indicated that payment of this fee would not necessarily guarantee resolution of the issue. Furthermore, if the issue was not resolved, there would be no refund.
My question is: Why NOT? If I have an item that requires repair and I present it to an authorised repairer, pay my money and when it is returned and still does not work, it is either worked on until repaired or I get my money back.
I will add that I have a genuine copy of MS Office 2007 that I am unwilling to install at this moment as this software (according to the MSKB) is also prone to this error. I understand that MS Office 2007 technical support is covered under mainstream support options.
This problem affects ALL flavours of Outlook so why would I install my Office 2007 if the problem was going to persist.
If anybody has a fix that WORKS, let me know. I'd sure like to pass it on to all- including Microsoft.

Email is sent but stays in Out Box
Guys,
At last I think that I may have resolved the issue- and SIMPLY TOO.
After re-formatting and re-loading 3 times and trolling through innumerable Google answers, I wrote to my ISP- this was to complain about this and various other issues.
They finally responded and said that the '4210b' error relates to the e-mail client rather than anything from the network.
What I have done is increase the 'Server Timeout' period to the maximum (5 minutes in Outlook 2007) and away we go. (I had previously increased the period to 1½ minutes without any improvement)
It has been very successful so far with NO ERROR MESSAGES. With all the effort that I went through- and this appears to have resolved the problem
