Hi,
I have 2 computers networked together using a wireless connection, both computers (I will call them 1 & 2) will ping the other sucessfully and both computers show in the "view workgroup computers" but while computer No 1 can access the shared files on computer No 2 when computer No 2 tries to access files on No 1 the following message appears "No 1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."
I am using XP SP2 on both machines , the same problem occured with a wired network, all firewalls are off.
I called Microsoft but they sent me to their Knowledge base which didn't help, the next step was to pay them $50.00 to help.

Re: Logon problem
Have you created a user on PC 1 with corresponding login name and password to the user that you are logged in under on PC 2?
If you do have such a user on the other the computer, does it have the permissions to access the resources you are trying to access on that other computer?
For example, if the resource is only accessible to an administrator, it can't be accessed from the other computer by a user that's only an ordinary user.

Re: Logon problem
Thanks for the reply Gordon.
Yes I do have the same login name and password and it still does not work. When I go to my network places on computer No 2 it only shows the shared files on that computer. If I click on show workgroup computers it shows both machines but when I double click on computer No 1 this is when I receive the error message. I dont get to the point where I try to access a particular folder.
I know in XP Pro you can set access rights but not in XP Home which I have.

Re: Logon problem
If you are running Zone Alarm don't just turn the firewall off, SHUT IT DOWN. If you dont have the network defined correctly in ZA then turning it off may not allow access.

Re: Logon problem
I even uninstalled Zone alarm and still received the same error message, after reinstalling Zone alarm I now have to switch it off each time i want to receive email even though in program control it has full access, but thats another problem, I am thinking of a clean install of Windows as its about due anyway, but I would really like to be able to fix this, it just annoys me.

Re: Logon problem
From what you say it appears that computer no. 1 does not allow guest access to its shared files. Usually I get around this by tinkering in the policy settings (control panel -> admin tools -> local security policy) to enable guest access.
You also might be able to try typing in '\comp-nameC$' to bring up comp no. 1 C drive (this will require a login from a user with administrative access). This works the same with D$, E$ etc.
Hope this helps in some small way.
