Adsl Network Server (6 posts)

We have 8 computers hooked up with adsl, all machines are networked. If I have adsl at home, is there a way to access our server at work from home.

Thank you

Re: Adsl Network Server

That is a question you should be asking the system administrator at work. Organisations are reluctant to expose their system to external penetration without a good business reason. You are going to require whoever makes security decisions to authorise it and the administrator to configure it.

Re: Adsl Network Server

Hi Toni,

You'll need to discuss the capability of your work network with your system administrator, or the company who installed it if the system is externally maintained.

Should the capability exist for for your work network to accomodate a node located in your home, you'll need only to purchase and install a Gateway device to your home system to gain a secure connection, via the internet, to your work network.

There are a number of formats for the secure connection, and the type of Gateway unit you purchase will be decided by the network characteristics. Units range in price from about $250 to over $1000, depending upon what, exactly, you need.

Cheers.

Hi Toni

The answer is yes. But see your network administrator or whoever is in charge or is that you?

Re: Adsl Network Server

Hi

Me again. Since adsl is a permanent connection I advise something called a VPN. Search google.com or Microsoft.com about VPN.

Re: Adsl Network Server

My brother has used a programme called PC Anyware. It may do the job you are asking.

Andrew.
