Hi,
I'm having an issue with my ADSL which I hope you can help me with.
I have 2 computers; a PC(XP Pro) and a laptop(XP Pro). Both are running XPSP2. The PC is connected to an iConnect 621 ADSL modem via USB, and the Laptop is connected to the PC via X-over LAN cable. The ADSL works perfectly on the PC, and the PC has been set-up as a Host with MS 'Networking Setup Wizard', but the Laptop cannot browse the internet, regardless of the fact that it's (1)telling me that it's connected on the taskbar and (2) able to connect easily to Windows update and Win MX servers and download.
I'm sure it's either Firewall or Browser/Networking issues, but I can't repair the connection. (It was working, once, but the next time I turned on the computers, it was back to stuff-all!)
Whatever help you can give will be great, I'm at wit's end!
Thanks,
Brendon.

If you have the iConnect 621 ADSL modem (router) there should be a be a USB port and a Ethernet port at the back. Connect one of your puters to the USB port using the USB cable and the other to the Ethernet port using a Xover cable.
You will need to set up both puters via your setup CD seperately before connecting the cables, I'm not sure if it matters which one you do first but I set up my PC first then my laptop second. Both puters will share the router for your ADSL and you will still have full network working between your puters. That's the way mine are set up and they work fine with no problems.
The other way to set it up is as you have done but you will need a hub between the router and the puters.

If you use USB for one machine and ethernet for the other I can't see how your network would function though. Also I don't think you can use the crossover cable between the Laptop and the ADSL modem if you want to connect to the internet this way, I think it needs to be a standard LAN cable.
Good Luck.

My setup - Cat5e xover between Laptop and router, standard USB between router and PC, and everything working fine, both puters networking fine (network connected at 400MBS ) and sharing the internet connection with no probs. And correct me if I am wrong, but, yes you can use a standard LAN cable but will slow data transfers done somewhat.
