Lexmark printer drivers (6 posts)

Hi

When I first got my computer I had a lexmark printer installed. I now have an HP3325 which is working fine.

I have recently discovered a couple of things left over from Lexmark that I am having trouble removing. One is 'LEXPPS.EXE' which my firewall warns me is trying to access some ports, & 'LexBce.exe'. I have W2k so when I went into 'services' to stop LexBce server from starting, it also stops the print spooler which means I can't use my printer.

I have tried to manually remove the LexBce file, but windows will not let me. Does anyone have a remedy for me please where I can remove all traces of lexmark & keep the print spooler working? Services tells me that the print spooler is dependent on LexBce.exe.

Thanx.

Re: Lexmark printer drivers

I'm having the same exact problem. I wish we could get a answer for this. :-(

Re: Lexmark printer drivers

Here is the fix to stop the print spooler to be dependent on the darn LexBce Server. I did it today in windows xp pro and it worked like a charm. I had to delete the string in both ControlSet001Services, ControlSet002Services.

This will allow you to disable a service or uninstall it from your system without affecting another service that depends on it. Here's how you do it:

1. After you have set your services the way you want them and you have disabled/uninstalled something that another services depends on, run "regedit".

2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemfind the service that will not function, do to another service being disabled/uninstall (found in ControlSet001Services, ControlSet002Services, and CurrentControlSetServices).

3. Once you have found the service right-click on the string value, "DependOnService" and modify.

4. You should now see a list of services that it is dependent on. Simply delete the service that you have disabled/uninstalled.

5. Restart your computer and you're ready to go. Disclaimer: remember to backup your registry first. I'm not totaly sure if this will have any negative effects on your system.

Re: Lexmark printer drivers

To manually remove the lexbce file and any other lexmark files, reboot your computer and continuously press the F8 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the safe mode screen, select number 3 Safe mode and wait 4 your computer to restart. When desktop is available go into the start menu, then the find files/ folders and type LEXMARK or any file concerning lexmark that you are trying to delete, check them carefully and when ready you can delete the files without any problems. Once finished restart your computer to return to normal mode. All files regarding lexmark will no longer be on your computer. Hope this helped.

Re: Lexmark printer drivers

Mark E,

Thank-you very much for taking the time to post. This saved me hours of down time and phone calls from frustrated users.

One note: On Windows 2003, look for Spooler under services.

After a restart, everything popped back in a much happier state!

Re: Lexmark printer drivers

I wanted to thank Mark E. for his April 2004 posting for the Lexmark LEXBCE services problem and fix! I followed your directions and now I have my printer back.

I have XP Home and my Lexmark Z54 was uninstalled months ago, but two days ago, I lost my new printer. I searched all over and finally found your solution and it worked the first time.

Thank you from Bill in Corona California USA!
