Suggestions for ergonomic set up (4 posts)

What are some ways to set up a computer to make it more ergonomic?

Re: Suggestions for ergonomic set up

The two most signific issues in getting computer ergonomics right are getting the screen at the right height and the right distance away from the user, and positioning the keyboard at the right height. Just putting them on a normal workdesk meant for writing, reading and office work puts the screen too low and the keyboard too high. Purpose made computer desks and office workstations designed as computer stations try to get these things right.

There are also issues with screen size, screen resolution so its readable at the distance its at, and screen refresh rate that people don't usually pay much attention to.

Then there's emissions from the screen and reflections off it. If you choose an old-style monitor with a curved face it can be difficult to position it so it doesn't have reflections of lights and windows. LCD solve that problem and reduce electromagnetic emissions.

Then there's the chair which is a whole other issue. Its height. Its positioning. The position and adjustability of the back. The right curvature and softness of the seat.

Chris,

Chair - Gas lift with movable seat and back.

Monitor - on a monitor arm or device to place it at a comfortable height.

Keyboard - I think that this should be about where your forearms are level (but don't quote me). There are also probably numerous sites offering advice on these aspects.
