Am receiving error message msvcirt dll not found. Where did it go and how do I get it back?

I can't find the problem specific to Flight Simulator, but Microsoft's Knowledge Base says the same error occurs in Encarta if the wrong version of msvcrt40.dll is installed.

This file is a run-time library, which allows programs written in Visual C++ to run. There are similar run-time libraries for Visual Basic as well.

A lot of software developers include these run-time libaries in their software packages, to make sure that when the program is installed, it has all the files it needs to run. Unfortunately, they are not always very clever about this, and sometimes when you install a program, it will write an OLDER version of one of these libraries over the current version you have on your system. I suspect that's what has happened here. Someone has included an out-of-date version of this library in a program that you installed, and it wrote over the more recent version that works with Flight Simulator.

Do a search for the file on your computer, if you find it copy (not move) it to the main directory for your game. If this does not work re-install the game. If it still does not work do a search for the DLL on the web, you will find it no problems,however it may not the be the right version.

Any copies you do find, try them one at a time (from newest back to oldest) by putting them one at a time in your game directory, and trying to start the game. On no account put a copy of the DLL in any of the windows system or system32 folders, it may make your game work, but stuff up other software on your computer.
