Re: jpeg virus

Update your antivirus, and run a full scan. If you are sure there is no virus, zip the files before sending.

Re: jpeg virus

Ignore it.

By definition viruses can only be hidden in executables. JPEG files are not executable, they are only data that is processed by the JPEG processor. You can't hide a virus in a JPEG.

Chris

I'm aware of W32.Perrun.

Its not a real virus, only a proof of concept that shows that if your JPEG processor is already infected with a virus you can then hide things in JPEG files that the corrupted JPEG processor will then infect other software in your computer with. That is, your computer already has to be infected with a virus through an executable attached to an email. The JPEG itself doesn't carry the virus. It doesn't infect your computer. It just transports a payload for the virus. So if you send that corrupted JPEG with something nasty in it to another computer the corrupted JPEG won't infect it. It's JPEG processor has to already be infected.

A lot of virus companies went overboard when they saw what was possible and started looking for anything suspicious about JPEGs. But in fact the mechanism used of a data file carrying a payload for an infected processor could be used with any attachment. You could even have a corrupted text file. The only reason a JPEG was a better candidate than anything else for carrying a payload to already infected PCs was that no-one would notice if a JPEG was oversize.

So your advice was correct, to make sure your virus-checking software is up-to-date, that's always good advice, in this case to ensure that your PC didn't get infected. But so was my advice, because its not the JPEG that infects it.

your problem

those pics have viruses on them, you sent them to your friends and got their computer infected, images can have viruses just as much as softwares can, watch out with what you download it can lead to your computers demize. for more information about all this stuff go to http://www.b4ucopy.org/ that can help you

Virus can be attached to jpeg file

Virus can be attached to the jpeg files or wmf files. Once the image processor try to open the image file, the virus will execute and infect the system.

I had a Fuji Camera and I tried copying files on to my laptop... but the files seem to have gotten corrupted... each image is now 3.12 GB, infact all of them... When I try to open it in Windows Picture Viewer it says unknown format or file is corrupted... Now the videos in that folder are all good and running well... Only pictures cannot be opened.

Unfortunately I had deleted all the originals from my camera... so now I badly need to recover those pictures that are corrupted.

Pls help.
