Only One User on it (3 posts)

I had two users on my 'puter for a while, but now only one. I removed the other OK, except that when I reboot [With Me, that's rather too often!] I am still asked what User I want, even tho' there's only the one... Smart, they're not! How do I get it to start without asking that silly question? It won't do any more till I answer it, and it won't 'remember' the answer if I give it in advance. Tnx Clyde

Re: Only One User on it

First delete any files in your windows directory with the extension .pwl and make sure your Primary network logon in your network properties is set to Windows Login then reboot. The first time you will be asked for a user, enter one without a password. From then on windows should boot without stopping at the logon dialog box. More detailed info can be found in this article on the Microsoft site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q152104 Regards Shane.

Thanks

My much belated thanks, Shane. I can only presume I did not see your kind and thorough reply. I believe that the arrangement I complained of was deliberately inserted by the pro I rely on for assistance in such things. He (btw, that's his surname,He) said the reason for the question requiring a reply was to ensure that I was at the computer, thus guarding against malware operating it in my absence. When I moved from Me to XP this precaution was deemed unnecessary. Again my thanks, and my regards. Clyde
