Does the TS 409 pro have the capability to connect wirelessly via an access point, or does it need to be hardwired to the lan port.

It does not appear to include wireless functionality.

The TS-409 doesn't have Wi-Fi capability. If you want to access it wirelessly, simply connect it to a Wi-Fi router through an Ethernet cable, and you will be able to access it as long as you are connected wirelessly or wired to the same network.
