Printer connection (3 posts)

I have a lexmark X6100 and I need to have my other home computers to be able to print to it.

I use a SMC 7004-ABR 4 port router that all the computers use to connect to each other and the internet. The SMC 7004-ABR router has LPT connector on it so the lexmark X6100 printer that is USB connection is connected my computer.

The port address for the Router is 192.168.2.1 is there a way when setting up the printer on the others computers in the networking setting can I set up a port to go through the router and then though my computer to the printer.

My Computers ip 192.168.2.7
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Assigned DHCP

Hope I explained it right.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Printer connection

sandpit,

If the printer is connected directly to your PC, then you should be able to right click on it and click on "Sharing..." and share the printer.

The other PC's should then be able to see the shared printer and print to it.

This should work fine under Windows NT, 2000 or XP.

If you're using 95, 98 or ME, you may encounter some difficulty.

Regards,

Daniel

Re: Printer connection

I would have thought this would have been explained in the instruction manuals that came with the product. So I looked on the SMC website (www.smc-asia.com) went to "dowloads", selected the product you have, and found that there was a downloadable manual entitled "SMC7004ABR Print server setup for WinXP". It appears to explain how to do it.
