Wireless home network (7 posts)

I have been trying to set up a wireless network at home. I am using the following:

Pentium 4 desktop running Windows XP sp1 with an Accton WN4201B 802.11b/g adaptor.

Pentium 3 laptop running Windows ME with a Netcomm NP5430 802.11g wireless PC card.

And a Netcomm NB5540 wireless router with an ADSL modem plugged into it.

Both machines can acccess the internet through the router. The laptop wireless connection seems to remain infinitely, however the desktop wireless connection will drop out every few minutes.

Any help would be appreciated as it is annoying to continually reconnect to the wireless network when online.

Re: Wireless home network

Hi,

This is what you might call an XP problem.

I have had one situation where I spent a couple of hours installing drivers to no avail. I gave up and decided to throw it all out the window, decided for some foolish reason not to throw it all out the window, went away for a couple of hours, came back much calmer, sat down at the computer and moments later a window came up saying 'new hardware detected.'

I touched nothing, I swear.

My suggestion is to turn off Windows Firewall before you do anything else. That may just be the problem.

Win XP frequently doesn't like wireless.

Install the wireless drivers and interface from Acton. Turn off the windows wireless stuff.

You may then have windows bothering you frequently about why you won't let it control the wireless card.

This should give you a stable connection.

If all of this fails, go out and buy a d-link card and try it again.

Good luck

Simon

Re: Wireless home network

I am not familiar with the Accton WN4210B. I use all Netgear products. There is an Accton web site but your product is not mentioned. Give the dealer hell, I get sick and tired of dealers who do not give support.

I just purchased a new Volkswagen car and desire to select a secondary market car alarm installed.
Plus, I don't care about the cost, I just want to get a reputable place who knows what they're doing. The car alarm system in the reviews I chose for my old car I don't like it.
Does any person here have a place to suggest?
Pls post your own picks on what are the reliable and best car alarm on the market nowdasy.
Thanks very much.
