data from old hard drive Win98SE (video not avaiable) to new PC running XP (2 posts)

Hello all,

I have a PC with 98SE....which has no video output (card or screen?), and have now purchased a new machine with XP Pro. I would like to get some data off the old machine without repairing the video issue. Can I use a USB to USB cable, will I see the old pc's hard drive....how best to do this without repairs.....could anyone point me in the right direction?

It is unlikely that using a USB to USB cable will work. The best option is to take the hard drive out of the old computer and connect to the new one through an IDE to USB adapter. These can be purchased from most specialised computer stores, however you would be well advised to get someone who knows what they're doing to do this.

Hope that helps.
