cant get connected (2 posts)

i am currently using telewest broadband for my internet on my p.c. and my partner has got a lap top and i purchased a router (mr814v2) and p.c. card so that she can also use the internet on her laptop. the problem is that my modem(motorola surfboard sb5100) has to have a usb cable coming from my p.c to access the net. when installing the router i have to take a cable from the modem to the router and then a cable to the ethernet connection on my p.c, when i do that i cannot connect to the net to get on to setup the router. please help me it is doing my head in

Forget about the USB cable. Store it away.

Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the router. Connect an ethernet cable from the router to your PC.

Turn the modem off and unplug the power cord for about 5 seconds. Plug the cord back in and turn the modem back on. The lights should flash for a few seconds and it will then go into standby mode, so press the power button once more to bring the modem online.

You should now be able to configure the router from your PC with Internet access.
