Article: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Adds a [Unexpected "Guest"] (5 posts)

After reading the article "Just In: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Adds a Layer of Protection" I downloaded and installed the program.

Imagine my horror when I found, after installation, this STARTUPMONITOR WARNING:

The program Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has registered the executable [%R%]:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe /install /silent to run at system startup. Do you wish to allow this change? Yes No

Of course I just said no. I am a bit concerned about the running of silent installs at system startup, unless I understand why they are running then, instead of when the basic program is installed. (Many program installs run, as "run once" items, a post install cleanup routine at the next startup - but this "mbamgui.exe" install does not appear to fit that standard.)

I do not recall seeing any reference to, or agreeing to, any additional programs when I installed the basic software. Nor do I recall being advised that the installation of the basic program would result in the program running automatically at startup. Maybe I missed a paragraph in the License.

Can anyone clear this up?

that sets up a button that sits in the tray to pop up the GUI. It isn't needed and I disabled it on my install.

malwarebytes tray icon

that line runs a program to create a button in the tray so when you click on it the GUI will open. Not needed for the software to function correctly. Some people like short cuts like that (and if you pay for the full program it does have "always-on protection" for which such a button would be handy).

Disable it once installed

Can we disable the icon once it is is installed, or do we have to catch it at that time? Also, am I reading wrong, or did the malware detection program detect its own install files as a possible threat?

Hey everydody, Now, I am utilizing one malware removal tool that be evaluated on the web, whilst it performs perfectly, I am confused if there is a better anti-malware. This would be an application that has the capability to separate from my firewall and anti-virus. I am going to get one or maybe two programs that cover just about all threats to my computer I could get infected with.
Can anybody give me some suggestion?
Thanks very much.
