Remote Assistance- getting it to work (2 posts)

My 80yr old father-in-law is 300km away. I set up his PC and to help him solve some problems and teach him, Remote Assistance seemed the way to go.

We both have WXP Pro SP2. He uses Dodo dialup and I use Optusnet. He sent the remote assistance request and password to me. We both closed our firewalls down, then went online. Despite repeated attempts by me to connect, no luck.

The only error message says that the invitation has expired (not true) or has been cancelled (not true). I know it works because I can use it between my networked computers over Optusnet.

Any suggestions, Please. Is there any other way? Thanks, Nigel

Re: Remote Assistance- getting it to work

Try this

Enabling Remote Assistance in Control Panel

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3. Click the Remote tab. 4. Verify that the Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer check box is selected. 5. Click Advanced to set the amount of time that you want to enable access to your computer. 6. If you want the user who connects to take control of your computer, click to select the Allow this computer to be controlled remotely check box.
7. Click OK.

Good luck
