Moving music - iTunes (4 posts)

I thought I'd put a shortcut to 'My music' on my desktop and ended up copying the files over by accident. So I stopped the process. And now my iTunes folder is empty and all the music has disappeared from my life, although, if I search for file names then they say they are still there and I can play them with windows media player.

How can I find these music files and recreate my iTunes music folder? Is there anyway you can use an ipod without iTunes?

Thanks

You say that the files show up in a search. What is stopping you from moving them back into their original folder? When you do a search the files are listed and so is the folder where they are located. Simply go to that folder and move them back where you want them.

Don't know much about Ipods and Itunes but there are plenty of hits on Google about your query.

Cheers

Don't know if this will help but when my computer crashed I found a site "Zolved" which helped me transfer everything from my ipod back to itunes. It is free but does have limitations in that all music goes into the library however if you have playlists set up the playlists will be lost and need to be manually recreated.

Read everything including the responses as there are a couple of tips in there. (There is a tip about showing hidden files and folders which may be all you need.)

Basically, it seems like you've got two options. You could re-direct your iTunes to look in the new folder your music is saved in (this is done in Preferences), or you could cut and paste all your music back to its original iTunes Music folder.
