Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found" (10 posts)

Hi

Recently the "New Hardware Found--Printer" dialogue pops up every time Windows is booted up. Although I checked the box "Don't show this again next time", it still pops up the next time. I followed the instruction trying to install the "printer" by directing the search of driver to the folder where I stored the latest HP printer driver I downloaded recently but Windows says drivers not found. Is there any way to get rid of this?

Thanks

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Anthony,

I would uninstall your printer and software and then start over. XP may be trying to install a second printer.

After removing the printer software, connecct the printer and trun it on and then re-boot. XP should then give you the 'New Hardware Found' box and, as the drivers you have downloaded are the latest, point your system to where these files are and do an install.

Hopefully this should solve your problem.

Thank for the suggestion.

I already had uninstalled the printer, which is a hp not a Canon I mistakenly clicked. The dialogue still pops up. The trouble is a) I'd forgotten which model of the Canon printer I clicked and b) even if I remember it is not a model that I own, in other words, I do not have the driver disk with me.

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Anthony,

I had a HP scanner and the driver software was in a zip file. You say that the system did not find the drivers- (I know it sounds silly)- but have you unzipped the files?

I don't quite get what you're trying to say in your latest response but driver files for all printers can usually be found at the Mfr's site or driverguide.com.

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Same problem for me. Uninstalled etc. but still does it. Had six copies of the Canon printer installed at one point and it refused to accept the drivers from the installation disk.

Any suggestions.

Thanks

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Hi

Are you following the install instructions properly, often if you are instaling a USB device you need to install the drivers before you connect the printer, or else you end up with problems.

As you make no mention of your connection method let alone the model (the maker for which you've even got me confused on, though I think I know what you getting at), this is all that I have to throw in. Hope it helps.

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Hi Mark

I am using a Canon PowerShot S50 camera. I followed the instruction outlined by the software accompanied the camera, but the model S50 is not included in the list of cameras. After completing the installation of the software, I hooked the camera to the laptop but nothing happened. After a few minutes, a message popped up reporting 'No Camera Window was found'. So I dug into the Control Panel, uninstalled the USB device, searched the driver, reinstalled the driver. Same old story. I then manually searched for the driver. I navigated down to Canon, scrolled down the whole list, there is no camera listed there at all. I accidentally clicked on a model (I cannot remember which one now, otherwise, I could have downloaded it from the Canon website and installed it, then removed it within Control Panel) which is a printer. So, every time I switch on the laptop, that dreadful message would pop up to haunt me. That "new" hardware does not exist, it is that bogus Canon printer I accidentally clicked.

That is the whole story. Is there any way I can get rid of that message other than reinstalling the OS (and all the application software)?

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Go to "Computer Management", open "Device Manager", click on view and click on "Show Hidden Devices", click on "Printers". If you see that orange circle with a question mark next to a printer delete that printer.

Worked for me. Can't claim any credit, saw it somewhere but can't find it again.

Re: Windows keeps saying "New Hardware Found"

Thanks Rod

Done exactly what you advised, there is not even an entry of Printer there (as I connect the printer via the printer port on my router) There is no device with an orange cirlce nor red exclamation mark next to it. Tough luck, isn't it?
