Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC. (7 posts)

I would like to Catalogue my Stamp Collection, and save & burn a copy to CD or DVD.

I do have a fairly large collection which would hinder carting it around in lieu of forwarding it on disc for perusal of a possible purchaser.

Maybe a Helpscren member might have a Software or App Program that can achieve this project (I am looking at possibly 500-1000 pages in this collection). Maybe I can use Ulead Photoexpress v7.0 or some similar program . I dont think it is a great problem but a program that once loaded and can be opened page by page with a basic description, would be Ideal.

Basically my system consists of: P4 Intel/Pent 2.4gb, 2x256mg dual ram PC800, Sony DVD DRU-510A burner, Epson Stylus CX3100 Multifunction printer, 80gb Seagate HD etc.

As I am still a 'P' plater, Novice to be exact, if someone out there does have any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks once again,

Dennis.

Re: Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC.

Dennis,

Because the images are small, an image browser might be your solution. AcDsee is a great image browser that permits viewing of thumbnails (small images) of the contents of a folder and by pressing enter, you get a full page image.

There may be other thumbnail viewers around of a similar nature but I'm unfamiliar with them.

Re: Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC.

Hi to Dick Tracy,

Please note that each page in 99% of cases would contain a number of stamps up to 20-30 per page. Many thanks for your suggestion.

Regards,

Dennis.

Re: Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC.

Dennis,

I realised that that might be the case. That is why I suggested AcdSee.

Another option is a type of 'Photo Album'. I would believe that a 'thumbnail' view would also be available in a number of these programs. Adobe Photoshop Album. If I recall, you can download a trial version of AcdSee to see if it has the facilities you require.

There is also a dedicated thumbnail program called Thumbs+. This is also available in trial mode and can also display thumbnail size images, print out various folders in images, and search for duplicate images. Cerious Software. com?

Some more avenues to explore.

Re: Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC.

As a serious stamp collector for many, many years I too decided to attempt to catalogue my own collection digitally. I found that both Australia Post and Seven Seas Stamps sell cataloguing software called "Stampware for Widows".

I purchased the software for $90.00 some years ago now but found it buggy in the extreme. Perhaps the software has been rewritten in the intervening years. Suggest you check it out.

However I scanned the thumbnail images from the Seven Seas colour catalogy and created my own database using Microsoft Access. You can attach an image to each record, print forms, want lists etc.

I have been using ThumbsPlus software for the last 9 years and it also supports Access will allow keyword searches and print contact sheets. It is a great program.

Re: Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC.

Many thanks for all of your replies & suggestions. I have had a closer look at 'Ulead Photo Explorer v7.0) probably needs updating to v8.0. I think it may do the job. I will advise at a later date.

Regards,

Dennis.

Re: Catalogue Stamp Collection on PC.

Stampware weill help you catalogue your collection.

It lists and provides an image of every Australian Stamp.

Through the use of the wants list it can print out a list of stamps.
