firewalls (2 posts)

I have a home networking set up consisting of just two computers, host/client, connected by ethernet cable. I have it so both computers access the Internet, and file share. My firewall and antivirus software is on the Host computer only.

Is this the correct way to go for maximum safety? Or should I have the antivrus/firwall software on the clent as well?

I have always considered it only necessary on the host but I am not entirely sure if this is correct.

I am using Windows ME with ICS enabled. Access to the Internet is via Broadband cable.

Regards,
Peter

Re: firewalls

Hi Peter,

For maximum security its probably best to install the firewall on both computers as they are just as vulnerable as each other to attack. Installing the firewall on both will ensure that the security you require is obtained.

Hope this helps,

Tim
