Startup Icons don't always appear? (1 post)

Hello PCWorld Forum,

My startup icons are set to include 1. my cam 2. power options 3. volume control 4. network connection 5. anti-virus.

Usually every second re-start only 4. net conn and 5. anti-virus icons are displayed.

I have PCTune for registry error correction but that doesn't make any difference.

Also, in additon to my regular full-time AV, I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware every month (manually), but both never report a virus.

My concern has been raised after reading a docu here on PCWorld about rootkit virus's. I have always kept my PC up-to-date with MS's Windows Updates (and I have a legal version of Win XP, duly registered thru the Verification Program).

The bottom line: could I have a rootkit infection? and how can I detect it?

Sincerely (and Thanking-You), Frederick.
