Navman Australia this week announced a completely new range of GPS navigation units, the S-Series Platinum. The S-Series Platinum consists of four models, ranging from the entry-level S100 to the flagship S300t. The units feature an intelligent search function that finds destinations by keywords. The address search method has also been improved. It enables users to search intuitively, negating the need to search backwards like most other units. The S-Series range also includes a petrol efficiency mode. This attempts to avoid stop-start driving and braking, while trying to keep speeds constant in order to reduce petrol consumption. Lane guidance covering major Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, is also a feature. The S-Series Platinum offers a comprehensive package of safety warnings — safety and speed cameras, accident black spots, railway crossings and school zones. The units feature more than 100 3-D landmarks including the Sydney Opera House, MCG and Suncorp Stadium. Navman has partnered with NAVTEQ to provide the Australian maps on the S-Series Platinum. The maps cover 1.1 million kilometres of roads, covering 100 per cent of the population. The S-Series Platinum range will be available in late October. The range consists of the S100 ($429), S150 ($499), S200 ($599) and flagship S300t ($699). The S300t includes the SUNA Traffic Channel service out of the box; it is available as an optional extra on the rest of the range.
