In Fall 2009, Bungie will release "Halo 3: Recon," which will serve as a prequel to the events in Halo 3.
The news was dropped during Microsoft's address at the Tokyo Game Show last week. Halo 3: Recon will put players in the boots of a UNSC recon soldier who will serve as a "new hero" for an all-new storyline and campaign.
The trailer footage shows a catastrophic explosion in a human city, the result of the Covenant's invasion of Earth. The camera then pans to show a group of heavily armored Brutes, the ape-like Covenant aggressors featured prominently in Halo 3's storyline.
The game is being developed by Bungie, the newly independent studio responsible for the original Halo trilogy. Microsoft mentioned a Fall 2009 release date on the Xbox 360.
