Trouble with Outlook Express

I would like suggestions as to how to restore functionality to Outlook Express. I can receive e-mails, but am unable to connect to the smpt server to send e-mails. It worked fine until a week ago. The only thing I have done is update McAfee Security Suite. I have turned off the windows firewall since Mcafee has one built in. I have gone through multiple steps to try to fix this, but nothing works. I am using IE 8, and Windows XP. I have 2 other computers in the house that are working fine. I also have updated McAfee in both of them. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I can't help you. I am having a similar problem. After updating my McAfee internet security I am unable to receive emails. I also have tried turning nearly everything off on McAfee in an attempt to receive emails.

Does it work if you disable McAfee? Apparently OE worked before the upgrade.

Suggest you carefully check McAfee's firewall settings — it's very likely OE's outgoing connection is being blocked.

If you're connecting your 3 computers via a router, see if you can enable its hardware firewall — if you can it should be safe to dump McAfee on that machine, possibly even on all (I don't use McAfee, but admit I do still use both hardware and software firewalls — however, I don't have one on the guinea-pig machine and it doesn't seem to get attacked.)

rat, Try to disable the

rat,

Try to disable the McAfee firewall, and re-enable the windows firewall - reboot and see if this allows the mail to be be sent back out.

If so then it would suggest that the problem lies with the McAfee firewall settings.

You may also want to double check your SMTP settings, as your ISP may require you to log on to send out going mail, or even send via a secure port connection - which is now being blocked by McAfee.

Hope this helps.

Outllook Express

All good suggestions but it may also be tied into Microsoft gradually dropping Outlook Express, as they have done for Hotmail connectivity. Better just to migrate to Windows Live Mail or Outlook.
