I have this laptop since two weeks. ever thing was going fine ....after few days my DVD Rom stop reading DVD's..pls help what should i do???

I bought a Sony Vaio VPCEB23FX less than 18 months ago. With good care and regular maintenance, I have a hard disk failure. Within two months of purchase the plastic rim of the DVD drive fell off. Within six months, a USB port did not work. I use a chill pad, and the thing still overheats. It freezes on simple Word documents. The display will frequently just go to black. The start-up alert will start buzzing and won't quit, so that I have to restart anew. Now I have a hard disk failure? No surprise. It's a POS. I'm looking for another laptop. It WILL NOT be made by Sony.

how did u people update the graphics drivers..they can't be done as written in ati release notes of the ati/amd driver page..can u give me the entire process of updating..

I bought this laptop in October 2010. At that time considering its features the price was probably the lowest of all.If you are a movie buff the Full HD display is bound to impress you the clarity. The videos and images are crystal clear. The graphics card is quite promising I really loved NFS: Hot Pursuit the graphic experience is life like.
The things that sets you back is the touchpad which gets really annoying esp. when you are browsing. The speakers are less powerful.(I recommend using a good pair of headphones). And yes remove all preloaded apps from sony (Most of you would actually never use them) and install an antivirus other than McAfee(trust me its horribly annoying!).

- Very very fast computer
- You can open 10s of application and the system doesn't blink an eye
- Full HD Screen is mind blowing , don't even think of those cheap 1300x 700 something screen
and people who are bent utpont i5 of i7 I just want to say I have not been able ot bog down this laptop anytime.
If you have money make sure you buy HD screen , make sure you buy Excellent graphics card. The graphics of new games are mind blowing and this laptop can play any game even the latest ones at fairly reduced resolutions.
I Play Call of Duty Black ops on 1024x768 with 4AA or 12800x720 with noAA.
NFS shift runs amazing at 1300. Crisis runs fine at 12800x720. with no AA
PC mark 3d 06 score is 6000 odd.
Its a great laptop for value for money. If someone wants a cheap gaming laptop I will say pick the new MSI
But for multi taskers like me I love the HD screen its a beauty and the system is blazingly fast.
Issuse: pathetic touchpad, get a mouse. Bad ROM drive mine after one year is giving issues. well I rarely use drive so doesn't matter.
Also hibernating can be sometimes issue , as once is come back form hibernation it will might not have brightness control and screen might be at full bright.
This screen is bright and really bright.
I own the similar version with previous release vpceb26fg its the same machine with .1ghz more processing power.

i think the product is awsm given its price change. particularly the full hd feature. yaa battery ws not dat impresive bt certainly its video quality nd performance covers it all.
