Panasonic DMR-EX79 DVD recorder

The Panasonic DMR-EX79 DVD recorder has a reasonable price, but the lack of a high-definition digital TV tuner lets it down.

Pros
not much
Cons
No HD functionality recording using the tv guide can cut the movie short.

I own a Panasonic DMR-EX79 DVD recorder and its inabilitly to view or record hd signals makes it useless to me. I wish I had not bought it.

Another issue I have with it is that if I set it up to record using its tv guide it often cuts the movie short by several minutes - really annoying when you get to the climax and it stops the show.

Do not buy it.

In 2011 terms the DMR-EX79 is an expensive unit. It is unbelievable that Panasonic would market a product which is incapable of tuning into HD channels. This is year 2000 stuff. I am sorry I bought one 18 months ago. Didn't know about the HD deficiency. Salesman never mentioned it.
