Nokia E6 review: Another Nokia phone that possesses excellent hardware, but let down by software that just isn't as slick, fast or user friendly as competitors

I concur with the editorial. There is little to fault the E6 from a hardware perspective. The main and very obvious one is that the design of the D-Pad is such that the message notification light is next to useless. The design is such that very little light can escape from within the D-Pad rendering the notification light near invisible in all but dark places. oops!
I am not impressed with the user interface and Symbian Anna, it is very mediocre and not a realistic threat to the competition at all. Apart from the obvious cosmetic changes there seem to have been few major changes to the user experience with Symbian since I was using a Nokia 3230, seven years ago!!! It's often the liitle things that make the difference in this area and one example is that the ability to customise and re-arrange menus is no different than it was way back. A little more progress please.
It says it all when the main thing that is first mentioned about Symbian Anna is new icons. I mean come on, is that it?
That leads onto another issue with the E6. In one respect it's high pixel density 640x480 screen is great. Really clear and sharp. Then it falls down because some of the icons and on screen touch buttons that crop up in various applications (Nokia as well as third party) have not been suitabley upscaled to take acount of the high pixel density and as a result are too small. I think Nokia's own Maps is a very good example of this taking place.
I bought the E6 upon it's release in the UK and it does have a number of bugs and usability issues, which isn't unusual upon release but I'm hoping they will be dealt with swiftly by Nokia.
Overall I think the E6 is a nice telephone but it's being held back just a little bit by a slightly disappointing OS that doesn't even equal the competition, never mind takes a step ahead of them.
