Sony Ericsson's T715 mobile phone is an inexpensive, entry-level slider handset that gets the job done without much fanfare. Built-in Facebook and Twitter applications may interest social-networking buffs, but questionable build quality and a proprietary headphone jack are disappointing.

The Sony Ericsson T715 mobile phone looks very much like a basic 3G slider phone — it's finished in a two tone gloss black and silver colour scheme and its spring-operated slider reveals a comfortable keypad. Each key is slightly raised, well spaced and clicks reassuringly when pressed, making text messaging quite effective.

The Sony Ericsson T715 is controlled largely via a standard five-way navigation pad, with support from two selection buttons, answer and end calls keys and dedicated shortcut and clear keys. Build quality is questionable — the slider wobbles slightly from side to side when closed and the rear battery cover feels flimsy and doesn't click into place as firmly as it should.

The Sony Ericsson T715 has a 2.2in, non-touchscreen display. It possesses rather good viewing angles, though its performance in direct sunlight is less than stellar. The display is too small to comfortably watch video content, but it is fine for basic text messaging and regular phone use.

As an entry-level mobile phone, the Sony Ericsson T715 has a fairly basic features list, headed by HSDPA capabilities, a 3-megapixel camera and an FM radio, but no GPS or Wi-Fi. The built-in Facebook and Twitter applications are perhaps the best feature. Despite the T715 running a proprietary operating system with no third-party application store, both of these apps can run in the background, and are easily selectable by pressing a shortcut button once opened. A nice touch is Facebook messages, which are available in the regular messages menu, while YouTube and Google Maps applications are also present.

The Sony Ericsson T715 is straightforward and easy enough to use, with a basic 4x3 grid layout for the main menu and list format submenus. The phone doesn’t suffer from any lag or slowdown, and there is no keystroke lag when text messaging, but the Facebook and Twitter apps do take a few seconds longer to load than most other applications.

The Sony Ericsson T715 has a reasonable music player, but the lack of a regular 3.5mm headphone jack is a real downside. The tiered multimedia menu is similar to the PlayStation 3 and the interface can be made accessible with one click from the home screen by editing the default shortcuts.

The Sony Ericsson T715 includes just 90MB of internal memory, but a microSD card slot handles extra storage. The phone can accept microSD cards up to 32GB in size.
