BenQ's G2410HD LCD monitor has a Full HD resolution, a 2ms response time and an impressive contrast ratio

With a Full HD resolution and a 40,000:1 contrast ratio, BenQ's G2410HD 16:9 widescreen, 24in LCD monitor certainly has impressive specifications considering its price. Though it performs well, the lack of an HDMI input means you won't be able to watch Blu-ray movies.

The BenQ G2410HD LCD monitor aims to impress, with a thin gloss black bezel and dome-shaped base, but it doesn't look as impressive as some competing monitors. A particular annoyance is the reflective bezel. We would much prefer a non-glossy design, but thankfully the screen itself has a matte finish. The G2410HD's base only offers vertical tilt adjustment. The stand isn’t height adjustable and doesn’t tilt horizontally, though the unit is wall mountable with a standard VESA mount.

The G2410HD's controls are hit and miss. They are placed below the bezel at the bottom right of the monitor, sitting on an angle. They aren’t backlit so it's difficult to adjust settings at night, and the button placement is rather awkward.

The BenQ G2410HD has a native resolution of 1920x1080, making it a Full HD monitor. Its 16:9 aspect ratio makes it useful for watching widescreen video content. The lack of an HDMI input is especially disappointing considering the Full HD resolution. The G2410HD is restricted to basic DVI and D-Sub VGA ports. Annoyingly, BenQ doesn't include a DVI cable in the sales package.

The G2410HD offers good image quality. We were particularly impressed when viewing fast motion: the G2410HD has a 2ms response time when BenQ's Advanced Motion Accelerator (AMA) feature is activated and we didn't encounter any ghosting while playing games or watching movies.

Contrast and colour reproduction are good considering the price. Fine, dark details are sometimes lost and the G2410HD slightly over-saturates skin tones, but on the whole performance is above average and our DisplayMate tests revealed few flaws. The rich blacks are also impressive, and text is excellent — the G2410HD's image is sharp and crisp, so text is displayed with no visible aberrations. You'll probably need to bump down the brightness a few notches as it does wash out colour on the default settings.

The G2410HD's viewing angles are rated at 160/170 degrees which is fair but not outstanding. There is noticeable colour shift and detail loss when viewing the screen from off-centre.
