So... if you're the kind of person who was already planning to flash the ROM on your new router, this is a great piece of hardware. It is one of the two supported platforms for CeroWRT (so it's also very well supported by OpenWRT). The hardware build quality is excellent. I'm running CeroWRT 3.3.8-10 and haven't rebooted the router since I upgraded the firmware (going on 6 months, although there was a power-outage reboot in there). I typically seed about 40 torrents, support a very limited web-presence and am running a small wireless mesh grid with two 3700's in addition to the 3800. Absolutely rock solid hardware.

However, if you do NOT plan to flash the ROM with custom firmware (and spend some significant time on your network), don't bother. The stock firmware is junk.

I got this WNDR3800 Wireless from SureWest. For about 4 months it worked nice and I got good speed but after that it started acting on me. Every now and then it would drop the connection and I would end up resetting it. Now the frequency of that resetting has gone to almost 5 to 6 times a day. Very annoying. Some times you reset it and start working and within few minutes again it would drop the connection.

I read the reviews of this router and found that this router has the worst user ratings. I think I will buy my own to get rid of this piece of junk.

I see now by reading the other posts that I am not alone in my pain with this router. I have had it for over a year now and it worked fine until about a month ago when it began to randomly drop internet connections. so I guess I fared better than most with it lasting a year. Tech support (and I use the term loosely) suggested switching from N to the b & g settings, heck, if that's the case I should have just kept my 50.00 dollar Belkin. I will rate it with two stars only because I got a year of service out of it.

Not sure if I will buy a Netgear product again.

Experiencing the same dropped internet. Went to the store to see about an exchange thinking it was just this particular router i had picked up but found out this issue is more widespread and not "just" my router.

For shame Netgear!!

device is awesome, wireless speeds are amazing thanks to the Gigabyte ports. guy i havent had any trouble with this device. try firmware updates on the device - this is why they release new firmware to address these little issues :). also i wouldnt connect a modem to the wan port i let my modem control all port forwards and other settings.Use this device for a wireless ap and switch. i never have any issues

I upgraded from my D-Link DIR-600 because I wanted dual band to resolve interference issues - what a mistake! Had trouble connecting to my ISP and then the unit stopped working all together!!! I've now read similar comments on the web. Returned the Netgear unit and got a full refund - back to my trusty old D-Link. Never again Netgear!!!!

Netgear really dropped the ball on this one! The WNDR3800, is a piece of junk, and I'm sorry I ever bought it! There is an on going problem with this router losing connectivity, both wired, and WIFI. All you have to do is look at it funny, or breath on it, and "Bam" disconnected. I haven't tried it, but from what I have read, their customer service is terrible. You would think, that the amount of money this router cost, that you would be able to set it up and for get about, not so! This thing doesn't even make a decent paper weight. I will not buy another Netgear product, and I will advise my friends to do the same!

The router fills the bill in performance. I get solid 54g on my old laptop, got another that does its card max at 160 and one that gets 300! Device to device is great and VUDU HDX is flawless. It self configured my HTPC Windows media center external to internal port mapping which was a big plus and I watch recorded shows using my cell phone tether. It has a guest network so I can let visitors get to the net but keep them off my LAN.

Router continually drops internet connection and needs to be rebooted almost every day. Netgear support suggestions was to use on the b & g settings and disable the n setting, so whats the point of spending almost $300 (aud) on a b & g router

Please, you write out of ignorance, this router is awful and drops connection all the time! Netgear customer service will not address the issues because they don't know either! But they will hang up on you after you have been on the phone with them for hours! Let me think of a word that best describes this router, "Garbage"!
