- ProsMe!
- ConsLenovo quality & customer service
Bought the Thinkpad T420S...the most expensive laptop ever. 3 months later while never having dropped, poked, or in any way treated the machine with anything but kid gloves, the screen fried. Sent it back to Lenovo (because the local Lenovo dealer won't touch them any more becuase of the quality), and Lenovo claims internal screen crack and want $700 to replace. It was sitting on my damn desk 24/7! No amount of talking to "customer service" works. Our Purch Mgr has made it official: after three bad Thinkpads with the same problem, we've gone back to Dell.

- ProsNothing
- ConsThe entire product
Reading this review, I'm reminded that this laptop is perfect for the over 50 crowd and technology resisters. Reminds me of my grandfathers oldsmobile. Can't see why this would be rated anything above a 3...and only for durability.

- ProsComfortable in use, ThinkVantage utilities are Best-of-Class!
- ConsClunky, dated design, So-so screen
Hey, there IS a "3.0" listed in these specs. — but it's for optional (~$20 USD) built-in Bluetooth 3.0. It's still intended for close-range (aka, same room). So the big claim to fame is as much as 10x faster data rates between 3.0-equipped devices. The speed boost will empower a host of new or greatly improved functions,'round the home & office, but don't expect to see it migrate into pocketable gear because the higher speeds come at the cost of higher power. Bt 3.0 claims to be interoperable with existing Bluetooth devices, and in laptops, it can be piggy-backed onto the WiFi card so vendors may actually save money by including it. Since there's little value in rolling it out this early, the cynic in me suspects that some marketing execs are actually hoping that including some "3.0" feature might actually confuse some buyers into thinking they'd just bought a box with trendy, but more-useful USB 3.0 capability. If so, that's easily remedied via the T420's ExpressCard slot; for $30 USD or less, you can add a 2-port USB 3,0 ExpressCard, & hook-up with high speed gear that's already hit the streets!

- ProsT420s
- ConsMac
My T420 has a dedicated video card the Nvidia NVS 4200M with 1G memory. It would have been nice to know how that card performed. Also I didnt know you can get the 3.0 USB on the T420 that seems to be only for the T420s platform.

- ProsQuality
- ConsPerformance
It would have been good to see some real performance testing compared to other laptops. Not even a PCMark Vantage score? Also, something must be wrong with that hard drive if it's doing 39 MB/sec transfer rates. Decent mechanical hard drives are double that now, and SSDs are 10x that rate.

Blah Blah Blah. Its a solid enough computer... but for just a few hundred dollars more you can get a much better MacBook Pro that runs a much more stable operating system. I have a Lenovo T420 2.5GHz laptop and despise it. It is over priced and over hyped. Its also a behemoth of a monster to lug around. Save yourself the headache of the virus commonly called Windows and get yourself a slightly more expensive Mac - trust me, you'll love life.
