I needed a powerful laptop to run matlab simulations and 3D Gaming, and looked at several different companies and wound up with the W520. This is the best laptop i've ever owned. For a full-fledged workstation, I did not expect the battery to last longer than 3 hours, but with the Optimus technology, I can get up to 8-9 hours on a single charge (also due in part to it's gigantic 92 Wh battery). Also, unless I am running a graphically intesive program, this laptop does not get hot.
