LG LS50-8

While the LGE LS50-8 is light, looks great and has good battery life, is it slightly overpriced.

LS50-8

Review by Danny Allen (PC World) 14/03/2005 14:00:11

The LS50-8 is a great-looking slim (2.7kg) silver machine with great battery life (worst-case scenario of 85 minutes). It features a 15" display capable of a maximum on-screen resolution of 1400 x 1050. This crisp display and the 128MB ATI Mobility 9700 graphics controller combine for an ideal after-hours gaming experience. The system scored 10,141 on 3DMark 2001 (a very good result), and Unreal Tournament 2004 testing returned average frame rates of 67 and 131 on the demanding Inferno and Face3 maps.

The weight, battery life and well-constructed design of the LS50-8 make it perfect for the corporate road warrior, and this is backed up by a strong performance result of 278 in the SYSMark 2001 productivity application benchmark.

A 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M processor is matched with 512MB of PC2700 333MHz DDR SDRAM and a large 80GB hard disk.

Unlike earlier and more expensive LG models, this machine also includes a multiformat DVD burner.

A multi-card reader is integrated into the right side of the notebook just above the bay supporting one Type I or II PC Cards. The port complement comprises three USB 2.0, FireWire, S-Video TV-out, VGA-out, parallel, microphone and S/PDIF line-out. The Ethernet capability is 10/100, the modem is a V.92 56Kbps model and an Intel Pro/Wireless 802.11b mini-PCI mini-LAN card is pre-installed.

LG Electronics provides a warranty of one year, of which the first six months include free on-site repair or pickup.
