Toshiba Satellite L850 (PSKFWA-01R012) laptop

The Satellite L850 is a good all-rounder, but it's perhaps a little too expensive for what it is

Pros
speed & processing power
Cons
occassional screen flicker, mouse issues

Had it for 3 months now & new Windows 8 (with Classic Shell) makes this a sound package. Use it for ms Access & Excel sheets up to 1m rows so it grunts thru things pretty well. Mouse issues occur when external mouse is unplugged & then seems to not recognise inbiult pad.
Hot fan exhaust on the right side causes problems when using an external mouse (the fan blows the hot air directly onto my hand).

Pros
does everything i need, i7, good graphics, paid $788 at HN sale.
Cons
agree with the authors comments, to me it's a desktop replace and will be used mostly like a desktop that can be mobile so some of the niggles aren't particularly relevant to my usage.

I've had the computer a few weeks and bought prior to seeing this review. The authors comments about the machine are spot on in pretty much every aspect. From it strengths, lower points And usage style. For what I need, a versatile computer to replace an aging desktop, do uni studies so lots of word and excel, run AutoCAD and some fun stuff like video editing. Its plugged into A second monitor with external mouse and keyboard so some of the points wont be relevant to my usage very often, but i do agree with the author. I dont see it being used for much gaming but its nice to have the flexibility. I bought it for under $800 at harvey Norman, so was very well priced for the spec IMO. One thing, I have drained the battery in about 3 hours of internet usage, though that's a payoff with having a machine that's more powerful.
