Quality audio for notebooks

- ProsIt provides a more transparent and crisper listening experience at higher volume levels. As compared to my netbook's built-in headphone-out which sounds a little flat and muddy.
- ConsI have not tried using it to power any passive speakres but I don't think it can power anything more than computer speakers.
I still recommend it as its digital out would be useful for laptop users to transfer their audio to their home theatre receivers for the best possible lossless sound quality instead of using analogue cables.

- Prosmy X-Fi has been awesome without fail
- Consno adjustment of volume, no acces to creative programs without some other software for use on linux.
MY X-Fi is used primarialy for personal use, as a amateur radio operator I found this to be the right tool for soundcard digital modes or computer over radio! On a couple of occasions and during statewide drills, I have used this card exclusively for all radio digital modes to communicate throughout the state. I have never had a problem with it, except the occasional lockup but I think this was the OS not the soundcard.
Now I have a huge complaint, it dont work with anything but PC's. I operate UNIX, LINUX, MAC OS X, and cant get the sound to work properly, in fact the only thing I can confirm I get from it is the audio coming from library and cds, nut I have none of the control over anything other then plugging it in or not.
Is there a way to use this soundcard properly with UBUNTU, FEDORA 14 or 15, what about the other OS's, is there a work around we can use. I know many who would beneffit from it, and would be more likely to purchase other products from you that they can count on having support for multi platform OS.
I rate this as a 5 for use with WinFroze, but can only give it a half a point for any other use!
