After having the machine work perfectly for over a year, error message "U052". Apparently during the night someone came to my place and changed the print head. The message reads "The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head." Some searching on the net revealed ways of cleaning the print head but the message remains unchanged. Also as has been mentioned previously, uses colour even if only printing in black. Found it strange that the yellow cartridge started flashing when all I was printing was black outlines of drawing so kids could paint then in colour!
What dissapoints me is that I've been an avid Canon user since my days of the BJC-210.
AVOID the Canon MG5250 like the plague.

Thirsty Lemon

When I bought my Canon MG5250 I did quite a bit of research online, in store and with friends who had purchased this device - all good reviews and saw it in action as well.
So when I bought this device with its attractive exterior and advanced technology offerings, I didn't observe that the black shiny shape should have actually been ovular and yellow, like a lemon. Because thats what it is!
Firstly, as observed by many reviewers already, it doesnt allow you to print a normal black and white picture without tapping into the colour cartridge ink. So why is there a separate black cartridge which we have to pay an exorbitant price for? I have tried to get around this by not installing the canon software, and using Windows basic printing functionality. At least I get a "print in black and white" preference! So this appears to be a manufacturers feature to get the user to chew through more ink. Not nice.
Secondly, the timing it takes to print. It takes me back to the days of old big printers when you had to wait for them to warm up etc. Are we in the 21st century now?
Thirdly, I've only managed to ever print 5 pages before I get a ink warning - the software that manages the ink cartridge levels is seriously flawed. How can I start printing a black and white page with a full cartridge of cyan and by the time (2 minutes+) the page decides to print, the cyan has a warning message for low ink, and I have to override this just to print the page? Wondering where all that ink has gone?
Dont Buy. Epson do better printers.
