    won't install on windowsXP SP3

This is the first time I've had an utter failure from HP. This printer is supposed to work with XP SP2 and higher, but it's installer will not proceed on SP3. HP's solution is to 'upgrade' to windows7, or downgrade to SP2, neither of which is going to happen.
The features of this device are a perfect match for our needs, but the software and support failure makes me question HP's viability. They seem to be slipping down into Dell territory.

    terrible cartridge life, bad scanning software

The most expensive cartridge/drum usage we have ever experienced in 20 years of laser printer use. Constantly running out. Will replace, but definitely not with HP.
The scanner software has many incompatablities with with Adobe Professional.
