lets make a tablet with some paper
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Android tablet
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 offers little to get excited about and provides no compelling reason to choose it over alternatives.
- Light weight and solid build
- microSD card slot
- 3G model available
- Sluggish performance
- Mediocre cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 appears to be a needless upgrade. It has the same sized screen with the same resolution as its predecessor and adds no significant new features aside from a microSD card slot and updated Android software. At the end of the day the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is sluggish, overpriced and ultimately offers nothing compelling enough to consider it over rival tablets.

Back in February 2012, a Samsung executive was quoted as saying: "Honestly, we’re not doing very well in the tablet market." Despite this rather frank admission, the company appears to have done little to change that with its latest release. The poorly named Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a largely similar device to its predecessor and has no killer feature. This is a reasonably well designed tablet, but it offers little to get excited about and provides no compelling reason to choose it over alternatives.
Much more of the same Tab
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a replacement for the original Galaxy Tab 10.1, which only released in Australia late in 2011 following a long and well publicised legal battle with Apple. Side by side, you'd be pretty hard pressed to tell the difference between these two models. Samsung has opted for a very similar look and feel with only a few minor changes.
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 feels like a well constructed device despite being manufactured from plastic. It's slightly thicker (9.7mm) than its predecessor (8.6mm) but the difference isn't enough to make a huge impact during day-to-day use. At 588g, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is thicker than the original Galaxy Tab 10.1, though it remains lighter than the new iPad. Its light weight is a positive but we aren't a fan of the glossy plastic on the back of the device. It makes the tablet slippery to hold and attracts way too many fingerprints.
The speakers aren't covered or muffled when you hold the tablet.
The biggest change on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the speaker placement and silver bezel. In a forced move to make the device look less like the iPad following that lengthy legal battle, Samsung has added a silver bezel on the left and right of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. The bezel makes the tablet slightly longer and doesn't look particularly attractive but it houses two speakers, one on either side of the screen. The speaker positioning is ideal as they aren't covered or muffled when you hold the tablet in its natural position.
On the top edge of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 you'll find a power/lock button, a volume rocker, a headphone jack and a microSD card slot which wasn't included on the original Galaxy Tab 10.1. On the 3G model, you'll find a SIM card slot that's covered by a relatively sturdy plastic flap. The buttons fit in well with the rest of the tablets design: they feel sturdy, are well positioned and provide good tactility. The bottom of the device houses Samsung's proprietary dock connection. This connector looks remarkably similar to Apple's 30-pin connector port used on both the iPhone 4S and the new iPad.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has the same 10.1in PLS TFT screen as its predecessor. The standard resolution of 1280x800 gives it a pixels per inch rating of 149ppi, significantly less than the new iPad and far less than the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity and the Acer Iconia Tab A700, just to name two examples.
It's certainly not a bad screen by any means. Viewing angles are impressive, it displays bright and clear images and colour is vibrant without being oversaturated. However, we can't help but feel Samsung has missed a chance to fit a higher definition screen on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. The higher resolution panels of some competitors immediately make them more appealing than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, which can't display the same crisp, super smooth text.
A below average slice of Ice Cream Sandwich
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 runs the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 version of Google's Android operating system and comes skinned with Samsung's TouchWIZ UI overlay on top. The latter doesn't tie into Google's holo ICS theme but adds plenty of new features, some of which are welcomed and others which we would rather do without.
We like the "quick panel" toggles in the notifications pop-up which adds toggles for Wi-Fi, GPS, sound, mobile data, screen rotation, Bluetooth, notifications and flight mode, making it very easy and direct to access these settings. Samsung has also added a screen capture button next to the standard back, home and recent apps keys: tapping this button will immediately capture a screenshot of the device.
Samsung includes a number of "mini apps" on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, accessible by tapping a small up arrow at the bottom of the screen. The alarm, calculator, email, messaging, music player, phone and S-Planner apps can be opened as overlay on top of the screen, allowing you to continue using any other open applications. The concept is notable, but the mini app tray can't be customised and there's only a limited selection.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 feels sluggish in real world use, even when performing basic tasks.
Samsung pre-loads the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with a number of apps above and beyond what Google provides, but many of them are best removed and simply clutter the app drawer. We like the Allshare DLNA app, allowing you to beam content between the tablet and DLNA devices like TVs, while the file manager, Polaris Office and photo editor apps do add some value. However, the likes of ChatON, Game Hub and S-Suggest add little and are best removed. Australian models of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 also come with the Channel Ten, Good Food Guide 2012, Magshop, Mathletics, Quickflix ReadingEggs and StoryCloud apps.
Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 feels sluggish in real world use, even when performing basic tasks. Transitions between screens and menus are often jerky and slow. We didn't experience any apps crashing or force closing but most apps we tested didn't open and close as quickly as we'd expect. There's also noticeable lag in 3D games, such as the excellent Dead Trigger. It's not enough to completely ruin the gameplay experience but it can often be jerky when trying to move around the screen.
In addition to these problems, most of Android's common issues are apparent on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as well. The browser lags when scrolling or zooming in on pages, especially image-heavy sites. The screen takes too long to rotate when you change the orientation. There aren't enough Android apps optimised for the larger, 10.1in screen size, too. A good example is the Spotify app, which ridiculously only works in portrait mode because it was designed to be used on a smartphone and not a tablet. Apps like Facebook, Twitter and Dropbox are other examples of smartphone apps simply blown up to fit the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1's larger screen and this has a negative impact on the overall user experience.
Mediocre camera, average battery life
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has a 3.2-megapixel rear camera for still photos and video recording and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling. The camera is a downgrade from its predecessor since it lacks the LED flash of the original Galaxy Tab 10.1, so forget about taking photos in low light conditions.
The lack of flash isn't the biggest issue on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, however. You can't touch the screen to focus like you can on most other tablet or smartphone cameras, so it's hard to choose what you want to be in focus. Almost all of the photos we captured with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 were out of focus, plagued with image noise and lacking in detail.
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 sold in Australia does not have an infrared port.
The VGA camera is also poor, though it's at least useful for video call apps like Skype and Tango. Any photos or video captured with the camera can be stored on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1's 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, depending on what model you choose, or the microSD card (not included).
Sadly, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 sold in Australia does not have an infrared port or a pre-loaded remote control app. Both are inclusions on variants of the device sold in the US and other markets.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has reasonable but not outstanding battery life. In our tests, it lasted for around eight hours before needing a recharge, a couple of hours less than the new iPad. How much juice you can squeeze out of the battery will depend on your usage patterns, but with around two hours of use per day we were charging the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 every second night, a fair but not outstanding result.
Samsung sells various models of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in Australia, some Wi-Fi only and others Wi-Fi and quad-band 3G. Optus is selling the 3G model, while retail outlets like Dick Smith, Officeworks and The Good Guys are selling one or more variants of the device.
The 16GB 3G version of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is available through Optus stores and the Optus online store on a range of Optus data plans starting from $39.95 per month for 2GB of data. This same model can purchased for $629 outright, while the 16GB Wi-Fi only ($479), 32GB Wi-Fi only with added 32GB microSD card ($649) and 32GB 3G + Wi-Fi with added 32GB microSD card ($799) are other variants sold in Australia.

• Where can you buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1?
i bought this 32 days ago, my charger is broke already, cant go to best buy to even buy one, they dont sell them, have to go through manafaturer, im taking it back, love the speed, love the crisp look, but the rest is garbage, if they cant make a better thicker charger chord, and not so flimsy and frail....its junk
Ive had mine for a few days and im enjoying it. Great tab :-)
To bad they will not support it at all. 8 month have passed and android 4.0 is still not available to galaxy tab 10.1 3g. Samsung only releases new software with new hardware. For the old hardware they have an update delay of 10-12 months or simply no update ever. Apple, Acer, Htc still still realeases updates for 5 years old harware, Samsung already dropt support for 12 month old terminals. I am a future former client of this company. Never again.
I've had mine for several months and have had NOT ONE of those issues listed above. Had the ipad and took that piece of crap back with out a doubt.
Who ever wrote this article had their mind already made up and it was obvious since I write for several magazines myself in a different field. None the less, I owe a Galaxy Tab 2 based on several comparisons and for the reason of dependable, reliable and satisfactory reasons. I shopped Fry's, Best Buy as well as Amazon. I asked a close friend who also floats between Apple and PC and when it came down to it.. Samsung was the buy.
The browser floats fine between several apps running, you can choose Google Chrome or Mozilla. The ability to customize features and apps used is a A+ for me and there is also the ability to stop apps from running as well as updating and disable with out effecting the way other apps run (if you know what you are doing... based on the writer of this article he/she is a non tablet user and should not touch one).
Also, plug and play is a real ease (this I know with my Samsung external keyboard) and that's a great thing cause as we all know.... Apple has to be apple and God Forbid that you want something out of the apple nazi army or that you HAVE to aac your songs for you to hear them cause you have to use iTunes. Which brings me to liking that I can use S-App which syncs with Google Play and no hitch.
So Spotify doesn't work on app..... oh wow... geeeez... that's what the writer of this article cried about?
Get better lighting in your office btw... even a flip phone cam would of looked bad, Try google music to play music files (it's free as btw) and learn to write about something you do know cause obviously you didn't try out this tablet with out pre-set judgement (or jocking Apple) and if you did maybe it was a open box cause I use mine more than my laptop (hp), I use the apps on it more than my Google TV and I use it like a laptop as I float between my HTC One ph with google drive.
Boom... ;-) (as I auto fill the section below)
^ LEGEND!! thanks brian you have made my mind up.. will be getting it tomorrow.. i think it runs better and is so much more user friendly than the Ipad.. my brother and friends have one and im not keen but when i played with the samsung tab 2 i was like YEP! have to have one!!
so thanks brian, rather personal review than a know nothing critic ;)

i have a serious problem with that skype video calling is not suppored in this tablet only audio is working in skype
can any 1 help me out plz ?
i dont know why video calling in skype is not working in my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
It does have the infra red port to control you entertainment centre, very much the all in one like the Harmony remote. I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 and not had a single negative issue mentioned in your article happen? We did a side by side test wIth the, new Infinity, IPad 2 and SAMSUNG for over 2 hours in-store, and guess who loaded Webpages faster and Multi tasked faster. The SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE10.1
Even the qualified Apple spokesman trained by Apple to sell there product was surprised.
Opsss sorry wrong product, my bad :(
at first vedio call inmy samsung tab 2 is working but lately it didnt work. what can i do now? somebody help me pls.
to HAMII and cata
It works fine to me, just try to re-install skype
hiii..can anybody tell me what's the price of the samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 16 gb wifi.................in australia......................
Your looking at about $480 anything under that is a good deal.
I haven't yet bought a tablet so far but hoping this Christmas I'd be an owner of one. And my choice is between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" or the Asus Transformer Infinity TF700. The Samsung looks more sturdy to my eyes and the best feature that it attracts me better than the Asus are the stereo speakers! Yes one on each side and on the front! Although the Asus has an HD display with a faster CPU, I think my choice is gonna be obvious. Hope though Samsung developers quickly issue the firmware upgrade to ICS to the new O/S 4.1.1. Jelly Bean with its new features.
Hi Sujan picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $365 from Dick Smith in Brisbane.
Cheapest I managed to find so far is from simplyelectronics.net for the price of £269.95 which is equivalent to €325.95 (approx $415) :/
why its not playing hd videos on youtube ? tht sucks, any one can help !
Why this tablet do not support flash? What can I do in this case?
hi ...cgc....does it cost 365$ from dicksmith store of queen street,brisbane.....?
It feels awesome to read such informative and unique articles on your websites.
I feel pleasure to read the content that you are posting.
I am a grandmother who knows NOTHING about all this.....Never had any of these pads or smart phones. I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy 10.0" from Costco. I don't have a 12 yr. old to teach me.!! Will I be able to learn how to operate it? How do you learn????? I thought about Apple, but don't want to go to Apple store for lessons.....Advice????
Nice tablet i have (sammysung, lol , ) but it won't play mkv audio... And, anybody know if there are any upgrades? Still , i like my "sammy" more than "afple"(sic) due to it's flexibility.
@Char, go to youtube n look up tutorials for whatever u need. (Thats what I did when I got my GS3 phone)
Bryan (19/10/12)... it's hard to take your feedback too seriously when you use such poor grammar and sentence structure in your feedback. I trust that when you 'write for several magazines', you have good editor! A reference to anyone being a Nazi is also not very cool regardless of how you may feel.
Regarding your feedback, I do think that you are misinterpreting the reasons why the writer of this article raised potential issues. For example, the issue of Spotify is more about the limitations of the device and less about choosing to use it over an alternative. Spotify has over 20M users and growing strongly which appears to be opposite to the Google Music growth trend, but that is clearly not the point. The point is that Spotify is a widely used App and if there is an issue regarding performance, then why not mention it?
Regarding your lighting in the office comment, I have SS Galaxy S2 and have made photo quality comparisons directly against the Galaxy Tab 2 10.2. The S2 is clearly more impressive in performance and overall results. My S2 is now worth less than $400 Aussie so I would expect comparable results from the Tab 2. Again, the point is that the camera in the Tab could be better.
Just like Twitter vs Facebook, scrunch vs wipe and Summer vs Winter, you will never convert everyone to your preference. I do think that the article is unbiased, unlike the grammatically and factually incorrect 'rant' you have posted Bryan.
Hi, I bought a Galaxy tab210.1 sg P5113 and I have problems with the rear camera is out of focus, just focus when does macro. I wonder if this is a hardward or software problem. And I ask, if it is a software problem with a factory hard reset this can be solved? Thank you very much.
Hi, I bought the Galaxy tab 2 10.1 and a amaysim sim card to use the internet when away from home. I have put the sim card in correctly but still no internet. When I go to settings and click on "More Settings" it opens up to wireless & network and I click on Mobile networks. It opens up on network operators being Amaysim Telstra Vodafone and I click on Amaysim and it reads registered on network. Unfortunately, I still can not connect to internet. I would love some help as I leave to travel interstate in 15 hours and would like to take the tablet with me. Many thanks Jill.
I simply need more storage than this can offer. I would like a USB port for an external hard drive but those are far and few between. Are there external memory options or should I just get a Surface for the USB
AJ thanks for the grammer Nazi lesson. While I don't own a samsung tablet ( do love my Sony Tablet S though). I would have to agree that original reviewer went out to put unfair negatives on the Samsung (which my significant other is looking at buying so I'm checking reviews). A couple of times the reviewer points out that some apps don't look great on the Samsungs 10.1in screen as they are optimised for a phone, fair enough but I hope they outline this fault for every tablet they review because its going to have the same problem. Basically it's not Samsungs fault if facebook app doesn't work great on a tablet, it's facebooks. My Sony has a 9"display and doesn't display facebook correctly either but I don't mark Sony down for it I blame the software designer.
Will a 32GB microSD card work in the Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 or is a 16GB card the maximum???
I've read varying articles. Some suggest that the device is upgradable to 32GB total (16GB internal plus 16GB card). Others suggest that 32GB microSD card, in addition to the 16GB internal (48GB total) works fine...
Who do I believe?
Does anyone have a 32GB card in their device?
Can anyone clear the confusion?
Hi, my brother just bought this samsung galaxy tab2 10.1, but video calling inskype is not working.. im using a laptop and his using the tab.. can anyone help us.? plss..
Any comments on the camera ability for just taking photos and video?? A new grandma here that wants a good device that is also a good camera/video device
Thank you !!
Which one will be a better buy, a Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 tablet for $279.00 at Costco or Apple Ipad mini for $329.00 all for 16 gigs?
Picked one up from JB Hi Fi in Sydney for $306 last weekend
do not know if this is only mine, but web browsing just reaking my head with this tab.Lags a lot,and nothing to do with internet speed, scrowling speed just so bad, jumpy,my head is aching from it.tryed my friends ipad, hundret times better,no lag. if i new it i would never touch that tab.
Has anyone else discovered whether there headphone jack is mono only? Using the
Samsung headphone that are supplied standard with the S3 and I only get sound in left earpiece.
Hi All .... Help! My daughter is in hospital and will be for some time. - Great Christmas and Birthday present for her -
I was going to buy her a Tab2 or something simular but she is a mad Farmville2 player on Facebook and so the product I choose will have to run that. Does the Tab 2 do this please???

I am thinking about samsung tab2 with No Contract Phone, please anyone suggest conf. about it.
Just checked today and Walmart has it for $299. My birthday was Dec 21 so belated birthday gift for me ;)
Heres a thing ! Does anyone know what adobe flash player works on thee tab 2? Because it will not bloody well let me even download it because I don't have the flash player I'm trying 2 get !!!!! How the hell do u get the flash player ???
I bought it the day after Thanksgiving for $299 @ Best Buy. I love mine. I also have a new laptop that I can now keep for home use only! (Used to carry it with me every day).
Just bought my Tab2 a week ago and think it is great, at $299 AUD great value for money and could not think of a better entry into owning a tablet. I do not expect that this will be the tablet that I would eventually settle with once I experiment with it as I do look forward to something like the Note. Still learning all of its tricks but looking forward to learning what it has to offer more fully. I disagree with the article written by Ross because for the money could not be happier.
Ghost-i have just got the tab 2 and was so frustrated it didn't have flash player as i hated my ipad for the same reason and thought this option would be better, unfortunately i have no idea which website i came across the other night but after an hour constantly attempting to download apps and following the adobe links i simply just Googled "how to download flash player to Samsung tab 2" and came across a similar forum as this where a user had a download link and wallah! It worked..sorry i couldn't name the site but just have a look around it can be done, and it wasnt the adobe site either by the way. Cheers.
Actually I'm pretty sure it was one of the links on here..
Can anyone help for TAB 2- 7.0- P3100Why voip dialer mosip & skype screen locks when the call connects?
You can buy usb adaptors off ebay for a few $'s. You can buy wall and travel chargers for minimal $'s off ebay. Our tablets run excel office and all the fruit just fine. Youtube plays well. Music plays well ( headphone in stereo) farmville is okay. But then it isnt a full powered laptop! Social media works great. 32gb card works well. Pics taken obviously from a you beaut digital camera are better than its camera but still pleasing. Skype works perfect. Slowness of response correlates to memory resident aps and open aps ( task manager peeps!) Allocate aps to sd card not internal memory. Same as pics etc. We have 3 tabs, the note and 2 s3's i gave my ipad away. Need i say anymore?
Just purchased mine in Aus, $305 at Jbs, with Aussie Day specials. Could not be happier for a quality branded item. Has an expansion memory slot which is just perfect, ( my sons Ipad 16gb is already filled up, so he`s told me he`s stuck now). A great pad at a good price, and there`s heaps of accessories available cheaply on line at various sites.
hey well my charger broke is it compatible with the ipod iphone ipad charging device
just return it and buy a laptop/notebook problem solved, we did.....
I have bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 and having difficulties in installing a Flash Payer and downloading Skype. Can anyone HELP PLEASE?
Looking at tablets for study purposes (so will need browsing and word processing capabilities) am I better going for the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the iPad? Getting conflicting info :P
My friend and her hubby both have the iPad and swear by them, but another mate has the Samsung and swears by that!
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 tablet, and am a novice at using one being a senior..I have open windows at the top of the screen that I can't close, and am not able to download a Flash Player or other things as a box comes up and says, something like "can't open another window, close some that are running...I have tried but am unable to close them...they are sites that I have checked out ...How do I close them? can anyone help me?
This review is so not definitely true. I have mine for 1 month now and I haven't exerienced any of those mentioned above. The battery is good as compared to my old samsung galaxy tab 7n--though am always texting and briwsing the net, the battry life lasted for two days. Not bad at all.
does a galaxy tab 2 p5113 supports broadband internet?

I want to download music from my samsung galaxy tab 2 to an ipod. This tablet have no usb port. Can I buy an adaptor for this purpose?
i stil love my BlackBerry..
I have had my galaxy tab 2 10.1 for several months now and totally love it with considering they're not being any USB ports I hate that but the worst thing about it is finding assessories with apple and I hate Apple I will not buy an Apple product but you can buy anything and everything as far as accessories for Apple when I need a dock, a simple charging station, stand, DOCK, whatever you want to call it. Either way it REALLY SUXX that I cannot find something, an accessory as simple as that when you can't even go to the damn dollar store without seeing the most common accessories such as that for Apple products.
I have the Galaxy Tab 2 ...everything works great have one problem I just cant seem to fix.... I am using the Facebook Messenger, while it sends the messages fine but I have to refresh the page every time to see the reply come through...very frustrating ! any body have any ideas how to fix this ?

My tablet started to just turn itself off and we'd have to manually turn it back on ( like normal) but now it's turning itself off like its trying to restart but only displays the Samsung galaxy intro message thing and the little tune it plays. And that's it! It keeps repeating that process every 5seconds and its driving us crazy it's not running out of battery, it doesn't go to the main screen to turn the damn thing off! Please if anyone can help out?! It's driving us absolutely insane!!
If anyone can help out please email firstname.lastname@example.org
New to this and tablets. I recently puchased a SGT2 10.1 and I love it. I would like to know if there is any gaming controllers I can use with my tablet and also I have an sgh-i497, what is the difference betweem tbe gtp5113, 5100, 5110 and mine?
I don't know, I bought my Galaxy 2, 2 months ago and I could not be happier! I use it for work and for play and have no issues. You people buy Apple and pay all that money if you want to, but I'm sticking with android. you people only buy apple cuz you want to be able to say you have an Ipad. Blowing a lot of money for no reason doesn't make you smarter. The Galaxy works fine. And I watch blu-ray file on mine all the time and they look beautiful.
I like the responsiveness of the screen and it runs well.Mine is a 16 wifi running jellybean. It had no flash player so I installed the latest version for android 4.0 from the adobe flash archive site. Now it plays flash,I love it...it looks very nice to me.I paid 299 dollars american at best buy.
It does not have huge specs....but it does what I want perfectly.I mainly surf the web and blog.
The speakers are a nice touch too....imagine, front facing!Yay!
Great tablet. If I want to take nice pictures I already have a nice digital camera...so I don't care about that.I also don't game.
For me, a perfect fit.
I have just this day,,,but as i check on it,,,i can not have good picture taking out of it and even video calling,,,,why?
june did anyone tell you how to close windows - my tablet always says I must close open windows - how?
expanding on the issue of not being able to operate tablet because it requires that open windows be closed ..I have never had this problem with dozens of computers I have owned and own..how do I close open windows on the galaxy 10.2 tablet?? I cannot even reach samsung because it is tantamount to a lock on the device

When in apps like facebook or on news pages scrolling is difficult. If you try to scroll on a picture, it will open it up, not a smooth operation at all. Flicking from page to page in the home screen can take up to 3 seconds before it works out 'oh, you want me to change the page?'
absolute waste of money.
just dont bother with this one.
- microSD card slot with well thought out encryption options!!!! Fantastic bundle of the Kingsoft Office Suite.
- Kies software is buggy at best and needs a LOT of work. The system defaults are actually set back up app data AND WIRELESS PASSWORDS to Google.... yeah, the same company that is indexing and probing all available networks while they're doing the Streetview groundwork.

The reviewer completely misses a major point:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 appears to be a needless upgrade. It has the same sized screen with the same resolution as its predecessor and adds no significant new features aside from a microSD card slot and updated Android software. "
The microSD card slot is HUGE. I've had an iPhone for a few years, mostly to see if I could get it to do everything that I want before getting an iPad. What I learned is that iOS is a lot of fun but virtually impossible to get serious productivity tools on it and to manage your data outside of the limitations of iTunes and the Apple ecosystem. The more you know about distributed systems and the Google founders' views on privacy and your data the more you should understand the importance of managing your data. This is a great device.

Unable to use flash...would a customer focused company blame Adobe or find a solution for the customer? Sadly, I didn't find the latter.

First impression on unpacking the Q702 test unit was the solid feel and clean, minimalist styling.
For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.
The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.
My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
